Having not heard the much-loved / much-maligned / whatever comeback album from the newly reformed / well not really / who cares Smashing Pumpkins (Zeitgeist is reviewed here), it's impossible for me to compare it to the rest of that records' offerings. I don't know if Billy Corgan is putting Zeitgeist's best foot forward here, although it's a far better single than lead effort 'Tarantula'.
Arriving in a sleeve that seems to share more in spirit with late-‘80s thrash metal than the psychedelic, spiky guitar-driven pop Corgan's band traditionally belts out, 'That's The Way (My Love Is)' sounds like it was built to wash through stadiums; it's a towering wave of metallic guitar and echoing synth-lines. It's a pretty decent stab at the bombastic majesty the Pumpkins were capable of in their hey-day which, I guess, is where the problem lies.
'That's The Way (My Love Is)' is respectable enough until it's compared to the Pumpkins’ back catalogue - and then it comes off sounding like album-filler. It's the sort of thing that been done before, and better. By Corgan, funnily enough.

The Pumpkins Are Dead, Long Live MOG!
dull dull dull
DULL song, even if their gig in Glasgow last month was fantastic.
The review for this song
could read for the entire album. Spot on - a pointless attempt at repeating past glories.
Even though
I don't much like the Pumpkins and I think Billy Corgan is a dickface, some of the old tunes sounded quite decent at Reading. However everything new was dogshit.
Awful
That's the Way (This Song Is).
... Sorry, that was terrible.
i know the fashion is
to bag billy and bag anything he does such as the latest Pumpkins release. However as i do not live in the UK my opinions are not driven by fashion and I think there are a lot of good songs on what is a very worthwhile album.
When will you Brits stop trying to be stylemakers and actuallly make your own judgement irrespective of what other people think? Im not holding my breath.
"although it's a far better single than lead effort 'Tarantula'. "
Billy Bullshit.
Tarantula is one of the few good songs on their new album.
Tarantula.
Huge Riff!
all of your ears are broken.
Zeitgeist is rubbish, Corgan can jump into a blender, and Tarantula is the most soulless, aesthetic-heavy song they've ever done (including anything you care to mention off Machina). Typifies everything that's wrong with the band as it is now.
This, however, is a genuinely well-crafted little track (the most genuinely inspired-sounding songwriting I've heard Corgan do for years, in fact).
^ correct
the pumpkins haven't been interesting or relavnt for years, allowing ego-maniac corgan some slack due to his wondeful back catalogue is irrelevant. If this was a new band putting this shite out, DiS would kill it
This song is many things
But shit is not one of them.
Ha
If it wasn't for us Brits tastemaking underground American bands for US audiences, most of the good ones wouldn't exist today.
No...
the new stuff was pretty good actually.
however
neither is brillient
