Appreciation for Dad Rock (see Stereophonics or, with a twist, The Zutons) never died. Liverpool-based The Dead 60s’ latest single is clearly a homage to this enduring sub-genre, with the main chorus hook being “stand up for you man”. Once you've heard, or even read that line, you never need to hear any more of the song. To save you any fulfilment of temptation: it’s repeated 12 times and is the climax of this sorry affair.
This mid-tempo, one-chord jangle that eventually starts to grate a lot on subsequent listens would have done well to have died in the ‘60s. Someone please press the reset button. Yes, the name may be trying to poke fun at bands prominent in said decade, but going on this single it’s perhaps unwarranted. No matter what you think of The Beatles, for example, they did dish out some creatively different ideas. The Dead ‘60s? Drivel. And whose smart idea was it to put an instrumental of the single on here as a b-side? If you fancy a go at crucifying this song, karaoke style, then it is worth buying, I guess.
