Good Shoes: The Photos On My Wall

by Rob Macdonald

There are thousands of bands like Good Shoes out there at any one time, churning out undistinguished, uninspiring and unoriginal spiky guitar fodder like this. No song, no melody, awful lyrics and annoying London accents: 'The Photos on My Wall' is just a tedious waste of everyone’s time.

They apparently have on board two producers who have worked with Franz Ferdinand and The Cardigans, presumably to add some credibility, but this doesn’t save Good Shoes from serving up a turkey for Christmas. The band members should be forced to eat their own produce.

  • Good Shoes 5 / 10

you what?

this is ridiculous. are you trying to cause controversy? this is great and loads of people think so.

I suppose I am just feeding your desire to get people to post comments, so well done.

.

Just because loads of people think it's good doesn't mean the review is ridiculous. Considering how much he seemed to hate the song though, 5 seems a bit generous.

i think

five sums it up well - completly average.

I think good shoes are great

but I don't agree it's a bad review... this is the first piece of negative press I've read about photos, it's good that not every reviewer is rimming them just cos loads of people think it's good.
imo the turkey joke was quite poor though.

I read and it makes no sense

Bands don't get big name producers to add credibility. They get big name producers to get proper production. This sounds ten times better than the demo and that's no mean feat and I think that it's largely down to the production.

.. don't understand a single word he says

excellent reference :P

gah

someone's got their knickers in a twist macdonald! hehe. it's a great song. good shoes are an ace in the face live band. deal with it.

wow...

...i knew there must be someone somewhere who thought the same as me about this band, but i never expected it to be a DiS writer. How refreshing!

for some reason

i guessed you were from manchester before i clicked on your profile...

nah,

don't agree. good shoes are a good band with catchy songs and this is one of them.

I like this

more than their last single.

what a shit review

i totally disagree. i think they are quite different to many bands in how they play, e.g the bassist only using high chords.

8/10 from me!

haha

"what a shit review".
Doesn't make it a bad review just because you don't agree with it.

I think this song is very average. It's boring and uninspiring.

"No song"?

You sure you didn't get a faulty copy?

I have to say - there are some odd accusations in this review. The charge of "uninspiring" for example. I'm sure lots of people were inspired. Can you prove otherwise?

"A tedious waste of everyone's time"? - classic 'reviewer's ego' interfering with the facts.

"serving up a turkey for Christmas"? Grooooaannn...

what

BobbyGrindrod said is what i was getting act. the whole review is based on opinion. which is normally fine, but this is a bit OTT

Disagree...

Good Shoes excel at making really good indie pop. They are extremely fun live and I ruddy bludey like them. Not the most poetic of retirbutions to the review, but yeah, to sum up:

Pie.

Good Shoes are all about 5/10

Mostly boring with patches of goodness.

ridiculous

its no where near as poor as this review makes out.

poor review

i like this song. the fact that you don't, isn't a problem. the fact that this review is badly thought out, is.

agreed

"The band members should be forced to eat their own produce."

then you give it a 5? confusing. it's not that harsh a score but you rip into them...at least keep it in sync. really poor review.

yeah

so i was right to say it was a shit review.

yeee ha

Interesting...

how people are now commenting increasingly on the quality of the review rather than the record supposedly being discussed. Is the inevitable conclusion that people will start commenting on other people's comments?

Like: I thought that last comment was really bad. I give it a 4/10.

Perhaps a played it a little bit fast and loose with the word "interesting" there...

what!!??

Great single. Rubbish review.

Full stop.

innit

.

It's a catchy single

but to be fair, he's validated his points very well, so it's a good review.
I'd give it a 7.

the scores are in...

Song: 1

Review: 7

Peoples ability to make sarcastic comments: 10

shit review...
