Assembly Now: It's Magnetic / Out On 24s
Now this is more like it.
It's not every day that you hear rollerskates, Virginia Woolf and soul mentioned in the same collection of verses, so hats off to Assembly Now, who not only manage to combine the aforementioned trio amidst their incendiary conversation about life in London's indie-centric underbelly, but also manage to inject a modicum of spunk and sweat into the mix, too.
'It's Magnetic' sounds like Bloc Party covering the best bits of Idlewild's Captain (i.e. all of it), but don't think for one minute that Assembly Now are New Cross copyists. In fact they're anything but, and if you're still unsure try listening to the onslaught that is 'Out On 24s' on the flipside, which seems to be a tale of skullduggery and deception in the Midlands.
Ace.

i like this review
short and sweet, just like Mark Moore.
Not sure about the cover though, what with the name of the label being Kids too. does Gary Glitter have his 'hand' in this?

This whole "clean tone" guitar thing....
Is it like, a sound now, a reaction to other bands overusing fuzzboxes, a backhanded tribute to the Monkeys? It's cool and all that, but it doesn't quite seem to suit these guys, hence the question: is this really them, or are they aiming for what's considered big now?

these aren't even their best songs.
and the single doesn't do any justice to how great they are live :)

Seconded
Really, really bloody good live.
I grabbed these two songs (and a third, 'Leigh On Sea') on a CD they were giving out and got to chat to the singer while I was at it, nice chap.

Excellent pair of tracks
This is one of my favorite singles of recent months and the songs they have up one their site are great too. The remix of It's Magnetic is amazing.
