The Vines: Vision Valley
After all the problems that Craig Nicholls suffered, whether they be self-inflicted or totally out of his control, it would have been nice if this album had been The Vines’ vindication. Instead, Vision Valley is 13 tracks of tepid dishwater rock: grey, dead, and soulless.
After almost imploding after the release of their rushed second album, the Aussies took some time away from the overly hectic touring schedule that had been inflicted upon them and took stock. They return with album three and have kept that grimy Vines sound intact, failing to meander even slightly from it, and Nicholls sounds ever more like Courtney Love. I always disagreed with the slightly lazy Nirvana comparison – it was always too good for them.
It is rare to stumble across a record that passes through the air as plainly and unobtrusively as this. There’s a whole bunch of songs that you can happily tap your foot along to but then forget in an instant; nothing to keep you captive to the record after you press stop. There is no ‘Get Free’ available here. There is nothing here.
There is no future for this band. They had their chance to go out in a blaze of relative glory but sadly they decided to regroup and produce this sorry excuse of an album. If this is The Vines’ vision then they have set their sights on something remarkably mundane.

Yay!
The vines are shit!

yay!
that just made my day. I will never forget when that rancid little twat was on tv saying that the real spirit of rock and roll was recording in a studio.
Nobber.

The Vines...
are a crock of shit. And this review is even worse. Although I guess the whole point is that The Vines don't need/deserve any sort of indepth analysis into their music to warrant a decent review.

its
from what I've heard of the album, it just sounds an even more boring version of the last album, at least that had Winning Days and Ride on it. I loved The Vines when they first come out and still play 'Highly Evolved' once in a while, but they always had that 2002 feel to them y'know
-
6.5-7/10 for me
for some reason i find myself wanting them to be better than they are....there is definitely something there though...i feel a bit of momentum was lost with the departure of the old bassist and a session dude being brought in...

Hmmm
Pitchfork and Rolling Stone weren't too enthusiastic.

Actually
It's mediocre, with some nice touches on occasion, but still hopelessly in thrall to Kurt Cobain (whatever the review may say - they may not be in the same league, but that's clearly the inspiration). It's their best album to date, but that isn't really saying much. I'd go more 6/10, but if you like them as a band, you'll lap it up.

What is everyone chatting about....
This album is better than that fuck-wit review above makes out. I don'y know what he means by grey sounding rock to me. Most of the songs on this album would fit perfectly on Highly Evolved and in my opinion it is better than Highly Evolved, the album deserves at least a seven just on the closing track alone.

Does anyone remember "Get Free"?
Because I do, and "Get Free" was a fucking good song.

.
It really isn't better than what the above review makes out. Until this album I was fairly indifferent to the Vines, but Vision Valley is just pure uninspired tripe, almost from start to finish.

Vision Valley is not shit, nor crap nor a crock of shit/crap. This album is being judged upon that fact that it is short, and therefore many of the less-than-two-minutes tracks are "disposable." Granted, some songs could be longer and have a little less predictability, but most people are missing the point. "Spaceship," "Vision Valley," and "Going Gone," are slower, softer tracks, however, they really make the album. I guess people are expecting some more Get Free's and Outtathaway's, but Vision Valley really is a step up for The Vines, whether you like it or not. Literally.

Vines Rock!!
U all are stupid!!! If u cant even feel to them, then go listenin to some crap music and give them good reviews if u like, i really dont care! But the vines need a lot more respect than THAT!! VISION VALLEY IS WONDERFUL, and thats a fact! Each song on it is a little paradise in itself! So if u got tastes, and like the strokes/ nirvana/ Blur/ Kinks and so on, u can b sure u'll love them as I do! Thats all i had to say.

they'd pay you well
and you'd be sandwiched between models.
Do it.

"This album is being judged upon the fact that it is short"
You don't seriously believe that do you? Have you heard a Beatles record before? Or any album on vinyl for that matter? They fly by i tell you.
