There’s no doubt that Duels are a good band. A very good band. Packed full of tunes, a blasé-cool disposition and some clever sonic tomfoolery, there’s very few bands who’re peddling such thrustingly excellent wares.

However, in a world of cheeky chappy chirpy bands, why release ‘Potential Futures’? Admittedly it’s got a fine pedigree in a Maximo-meets-Bowie stylee, but they’ve got a bucketload of tunes that can beat this hands down, and most of them won’t fall into the category marked ‘Post-Kaiser’.

So… We expect more next time. Classy b-side though, in a ‘We’re Still Looking For Major Tom’ way.

Hmm I'm not sure about this lot they just reminded me of the kaisers' lite to be honest. It seems a bit bandwagony in all honesty.

    Yeah, yeah, yeah NO!!!
Lets get this straight. I fucking hate the Kaisers (music, not people...) and this lot are like SO different.
    I'll explain.
This is glam-prog... A la Bowie, circa Ziggy, not that crap album A-lad-insane (cash in for sure.)....
    Still.
And yes Sean, before you bring me up for it, i only usually post on my own bands.
    love, as always...
    Tim.
P.S. Surely this is a quality pop tune!!!

It is indeed a quality pop tune. And they do have a lot of good songs, but it seems strange that this is the main criticism of the review.

I don't understand why this lot keep being compared to Kaisers? I guess it's coz they come from Leeds and write pop songs? Can't see that much similarity myself. Kaisers write amazing pop songs (which is why they've become so popular), on this showing Duels are ok, but not in the same league.
