To namecheck inspirations is pointless: whatever The Ponys' formative influences, they've arrived at a point in their career when their own compositions should be appraised without the need for referencing anyone else. Well, mostly - this six-track EP features a cover of The Descendants' 'Good Good Things', sung as if vocalist Jered Gummere hasn't blown his nose for eight years. It's rough and dirty and snotty and snarled, very unlike the lead track's pristine pop perfection.
A package to treasure above so many of this year's post-punk makeweights.
