The Cribs: Mirror Kissers

When bands cover each other via singles, it often descends into the musical equivalent of Chelsea shitting all over Accrington Stanley in a lovingly put together/patronising friendly. “Accrington Stanley, who are they? Exactly, nah gerroff!”

However, whereas Nirvana and Franz kicked seven shades out of their imitators with split singles, The Cribs can claim a scrappy score-draw with the Kaiser Chiefs on this 7-inch love-in cover session. The aptly titled A-side ‘Mirror Kissers’ mimics the Chiefs by shagging the arse out of their stop-starts, timely ‘woah!’ yelps and a tune so catchy even brain-dead skinheads on the terraces can sing along. In other words it’s a crowd-pleasing piece of brilliant pop.

The cover of ‘The Modern Way’ is an embarrassing thrashing however, and the scenesters really should stick to their own game in gaining promotion to the big league. In analysis then, it’s definitely back of the net stuff gaffer, although it’s a single of two halves, at end of the day… (sniiip!)

The Cribs - Mirror Kisses

it's called mirror KISSERS. The fact that it's written on the cover kind of gives it away. It's quite a good little ditty but got to agree that the kaiser's cover isn't too great. The fact that the Kaisers covered another number means that Ricky Wilson is going to do a guest appearance and sing on it whenever them and the cribs are in the same city ,which let's face it is quite often now as the cribs seem destined to support the kaisers for all of eternity.

The Cribs - Mirror Kisses

Hmmm, well i've heard the cover and thought it was charming! I don't think that they're trying to hit the mainstream just because they're covering a mates song, who happen to be enormously popular nowadays.

"Franz kicked seven shades out of their imitators with split singles"

If you mean the split with the Fire Engines, i think you'll find that the Fire Engines predated Franz Ferdinand by a good 20-odd years.

The time i saw Cribs they had two kinds of song - good ones that were a bit like Pavement, and awful ones that were a bit like the Libertines.

The Cribs - Mirror Kissers

I love this single, The Cribs are great. I bloody hate Kaiser Chiefs tho, so i'm at odds here. It's sucha catchy piece of pop 'mirror kisses'. They do remind me a bit of Pavement, but its more mixed with bits of Dinosaur Jr and maybe Kinks.

Re: The Cribs - Mirror Kissers

another guilty pleasure! ahh! after the new ordinary boys song, now this. surely my time with dis is numbered!

The Cribs - Mirror Kissers

Love love love this single and all the others. The Cribs are a breath of fast and furious fresh air with mind bogglingly good live shows to boot. How do you rock so hard and stay in time so well?!

This is still the best song of the album

well, in my opinion, at least.

The Cribs - Mirror Kissers

the album is excellent - and so are the cribs.

oh - they are not from the same town as kaiser chiefs, cribs are from wakey - not from leeds. but they toured together and got on famously.

Re: The Cribs - Mirror Kissers

which is nice :)

The albums a cracker, the live disc is ace too. They're my fave band at the moment, their pop is so infectious!
