Twentysixfeet’s vocalist’s got problems. Well, from his fevered performance on this 7” you’d reckon so anyway - be it some sort of parasitic attachment eating away at his skin or something far more sinister gobbling away inside his brain, something certainly does ‘Move Under Skin’ here. His switches from Matt Bellamy-style croons to rabid, Jesus Lizard-like shrieks both enthrall and confuse, whilst the music around him builds to a sci-fi destruction, exploding like the sound of a thousand computers violently crashing. He claims he can’t do it; we’re never really certain what it is that he can’t do, but aren’t about to start asking a man clearly on the edge.

‘You’re Too Cold’ is calmer by comparison, but the stabbed-at guitars - new-wave sounds butchered into punk squalls - are no less threatening. Again, the voice coming through loud and not-so-clear can’t quite decide on its ideal delivery style, here coming on like Bono on a Joy Division cover. Unique? Oh, you bet. Promising? Natch...

I bought this after seeing them with the 65 lads at the Marquee - I like it quite a lot, his voice is really interesting and the band don't really sound like anyone else out there. They were good live as well.

See twentysixfeet and other bands for FREE at The Marquee, Leicester Square, on 14th March:

*The Exploits of Elaine: expansive, dynamic, emotive instrumental guitar music in which to immerse onesself completely

*Akira: electronic drums combine with fractured guitars. Textured, abrasive, technoid art-punk for the apocalypse

*Sunnyvale Noise Sub-Element: a seamless blend of man and machine, layering electronic grooves, acid bleeps and lo-fi, clanging guitars

*twentysixfeet: avant-punk/rock with discords, soaring melodies and possible laptop abuse (if Dan learns the software in time!)

We have no idea of the order yet, but really it would be foolish to miss any of the bands;~)

As always, email all guest list requests to theband@twentysixfeet.net and don't be shy: it's unlimited!

See you there...

I missed em at the 65 Days gig, but will most def be at the marquee...have heard them on the ORG RADIO compilation and Storm digital quite a bit and like.

When is the single out? Not clear from the review...

Re: twentysixfeet - Moves Under Skin / You’re Too Cold 7"

Niceness shouldn't really be in the rock vocabulary, but this Marquee gig is a collection of really very nice bands. Whilst I've never met any of Sunnyvale Sub-Noise Element, both Twentysixfeet and Akira are made up of wonderfully nice people who've gone miles and miles out of their way to help us out in the past. I like to think that we (The Exploits of Elaine) are quite nice, too.

I mean nice in a personal way. Their music is anything but nice. Cos then they'd sound like Travis and we wouldn't be playing with them.

Anyways. I'm yet to hear this single, but shall definitely purchase a copy of it at the Marquee gig. I'm not sure, but I think I'm right in saying YOU HAVE TO E-MAIL TWENTYSIXFEET to get on the guestlist for this gig, otherwise you can't come in.

Re: twentysixfeet - Moves Under Skin / You’re Too Cold 7"

Alrighty; for the sake of administrative ease, we've decided to just have the one list So yes, anyone who wants to come should register their names by emailing theband@twentysixfeet.net. There's no limit to the amount of free guest list spaces, but as Dave says, 'if yer name's not down yer not comin' in'.

Cheers;
Dan

I also have had an advance copy of this rather fine single. To find out a little more, check here:

Hi Dave. You are indeed nice. Sunnyvale are nice too. Aah; mutual backslapping allround!

Everyone has a guestlist. I'll mail you later to clarify.

Basically this gig will easily be the best thing to happen in London, and probably the whole of The British Isles, on that particular night. I'm excited. And it's FREEEEEEEEE too.

Are you coming in your reviewing capacity, Mr Diver? Or is it a day off!?
