In the career of all great artists, you can almost pin-point exactly the moment where they stop being good, and climb that extra rung on the ladder of greatness. Think Radiohead with 'Lucky' or David Beckham's last-minute freekick against Greece. Or even the introduction of Simon Thurman as chief writer/illustrator on the Transformers comic book series. Sort of an inverse 'shark jumping'.

Possibly, it's merely a particularly good five-track EP made by the band in a particularly glorious acid-cracked recording session, or maybe this is ...AYWKUBTTOD's very own climbing-on-the-stage-and-flapping-your-arse-at-Michael-Jackson moment.

Whereas the band's previous, third LP was an overreaching, sometimes glorious, but ultimately failed attempt to deliver the goods hinted at by 'Madonna', this sounds like a back to the drawing boards re-crystalization of the band's ideas, ethos and strengths.

Thusly we get the amphetamine-soaked riffing of 'Mach Scahu', in which they sound like the least restrictive, artful hardcore act of their generation, melding loose-limbed bass and monotone vocals with urgent envelopes of guitar and anthropological musings. 'All Saints Day' is a stately, rumbling song of wistful grandeur, its throbs and screams reminds of ATDI, whilst the crashing, lapping guitars leaving you wondering if this is the best thing they have ever written. Possibly it is.

'Crowning Of A Heart' is a sweltering, psychedelic beauty, which threatens to melt down into a giant rock reactor, but rather sublimely, doesn't. It makes you wonder what Perry Farrell could have done if he hadn't disappeared into his own gimp-costumed narcissistic world. The rest of the EP takes off from there.

"We blew the past a kiss", sings Jason Reece on 'Mach Schau'. That may as well be, but they've just embraced the future with open arms.

Hey, is this in the shops yet?

Sounds like it's got all my favourite aspects of ..Trail of Dead present & correct..

Re: ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - The Secret Of Elena's Tomb

Dunno if it is out, but i've heard it and thought it was pretty shit. I love Trail o'Dead but this is totally missing me, on all cylinders.

Re: ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - The Secret Of Elena's Tomb

is it me or has their record sleeve artwork got progressively worse over ther last couple of releases?

Re: ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - The Secret Of Elena's Tomb

Well 'Madonna' had about the best sleeve in history of the world, so it would be pretty hard not to go downhill from there..

I like their artwork quite a bit though.

Why should absurd gothic pomposity be monopolised by crap bands?

Re: ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - The Secret Of Elena's Tomb

Its a tenner in HMV on import. I thought fuck that, just download it until it gets a uk release

Re: ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - The Secret Of Elena's Tomb

Re: ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - The Secret Of Elena's Tomb

I've got two of thier c.d's and they are not that great . some good guitar work, but they cant seem to pull thier sound together the way you get the feeling they wish they could.

Re: ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - The Secret Of Elena's Tomb
