The Futureheads: 1-2-3-NUL!

Art or artifice? It's a particularly choice chunk of mud slung the way of East London shab-rockers The Libertines, but strangely no-one's even seeing if the same stuff will stick to Sunderland hopefuls The Futureheads.

Somewhat of a misleading moniker that, as the band are buried knee-deep in a seventies trench of little-England-loving The Jam spawn. To be honest, these are tiresome, taut mod-punk missives that lack flair in abundance while containing uninspired retrogressive leanings in spades.

By far the best song on the EP is a cover of The Television Personalities' A Picture Of Dorian Gray', which in itself sounds like primetime Weller. Only, y'know, nowhere near as good.

Dear God...

What a dismal review. Just because The Futureheads use treble on their guitar and occasionally sing (gosh!) melodies, doesn't make them comparable to The Jam, The cunting awful Libertines or any of the other 4 bands who you know to be 'post-punk new wave blah'. This band are the antithesis of that utter dirge. They're XTC, Gang of Four and The Yummy Fur. Maybe Wire, PiL, or Mission of Burma. They're a band who play songs using conventional instruments, but a band who are utterly invogorating and refreshing.

And 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' is easily the weakest track on this ep. Do you have ears? Does your brain function above a sub-primate level? Listen to it again and at least, give a decent account of the music. And do a little research. Even if you don't like it, don't kid folks into think it's something it's not.

Re: Dear God...

i agree the review is to negative... granted they are my mates but they are a much better band than that review makes out.

Re: Dear God...

Jesus Christ, what a mind bogglingly sanctimonious message. I love that fact that because they're so 'hip' and 'underground', you assume that I know nothing of these 'cool bands'. I mean, for gods sake, you've just spewed off the Uncut magazine cool list. (Mission of Burma; they're the one's who covered REM, Graham Coxon and Moby, right? Gang of Four, they're the ones who want to sound like all these bands from New York, yeah?)

And in regards to research, how on earth would I have found out or even cared that they covered a song by The Television Personalities? And are you telling me that none of these songs sound like 'The Modern World' by The Jam? Seriously?

How about you stick your pretentious post punk loving oversized ego up your arse and fuck off back to cooler-than thou-land.

And Im certainly not kidding folks that its any good. Its boooooorrrrrrrring.

Re: Dear God...

No, I didn't spew off the 'Uncut' cool list. I'm actually old enough to remember Gang Of Four and XTC. I was there. Not that this makes me better in any way, of course. Well yeah, let's just say it does.

Lord... How can you call 'Ticket' a boring track! You're delirious, man.

Play 'The Modern World' by The Jam. Then play this record again. Then feel thoroughly ashamed.

NO NO NO

Gareth. You're a lovely boy. But you're wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

"You should be old enough to know better..."

The Futureheads - 1-2-3-NUL! EP

I have heard it and I did really enjoy it. But everyone will always have a different opinion so why try to change it. the Futureheads are mates of mine and I wish them the success they deserve but trying to tell people that there opinion is wrong is not right.

The Futureheads - 1-2-3-NUL! EP

how can you "lack flair in abudance" ?

Re: The Futureheads - 1-2-3-NUL! EP

by having very, very little flair?
that's what I got from it, anyway

The Futureheads - 1-2-3-NUL! EP

Gareth is right. They irritated me like nothing else on earth at the 100 Club. Thanks, I'd rather listen to Adam and the Ants.

How times change, eh?
