I mean… what happened here? It’s very rare for an outspoken, verbose DiS journalist to be caught with their thesaurus-ed pants down, but… what can one say about Lemon Jelly’s ‘The Shouty Track’? It’s an odd thing; one vocal looped over and over a nothing gentle electronic track.

In an office where we’ve been swamped by new records from Doves, Idlewild, LCD, Arcade Fire, The Silent League, Mercury Rev, Athlete, Daft Punk and many, many more - all of which there are many tens of valid points to make - this just feels like a waste of our and their time. It stands to reason that the release of this is decidedly low-key and in fact the packaging is as unassuming as the track itself. Roll on the (hopefully more substantial) LP…

Re: Lemon Jelly - The Shouty Track

they are what they are - lightweight background music, for once in a good way (IMO). if you don't go with it, or try to dig any deeper, there will be nothing there. that's lemon jelly. substance free, but fun. no point expecting anything else from them really.

Re: Lemon Jelly - The Shouty Track

substance free? pfft.
the new album pretty much fills that criteria maybe, but lost horizons and .ky are both incredibly detailed and full of perfectly timed and instrumented music, to a fun and uplifting effect which transcends the 'novelty' label.

i guess i was expecting too much from the latest album. This single is the best song on there IMO, and whilst i like it, it just doesnt have the timeless charm and deepness of their other material.
