While NYC scuzz-punks prefer their ubiquitous ‘The’ prefixes and =EmO= weepers tend to monicker themselves with a short sentence involving Molly or someone, the goth-hardcore fraternity are inherently obsessed with the underworld and legendary status via death. Enter My Chemical Romance with their re-released début.
They flounder smartly through massive, calculated goth-punk outbursts in the veins of a more miserable AFI or a calloused and more concise Finch. Some of the lyrics are obviously quite ridiculous when taken out of the context of the grumpy yet frantic melodies that accompany. When you’re moaning about how your hot bitch of an (ex) girlfriend shagged four of your mates last night and how you want to shoot bits of (your own) brain against your parents’ walls it sounds damn good though.
This record’s undeniable fragmentation is displayed in the fact that every song can happily stand alone and be played on repeat - but only if you wish to attain the same level of mental torture and distress that MCR are clearly at. If you are prepared to ignore their bitter, over-earnest vitriol and would just like to swoon slightly as you catch the occasional palpable noun, citing vampires or bullets, this could be one of the best records you buy this year.
My Chemical Romance - I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love
Doubtful. EXTREMELY doubtful.
This album is painfully average. For a genre that is over-saturated, you're better off buying one of the multitude of albums that "do it better", if you will. There's no doubt that this band could make a good album, and although it's certainly better than these outright emo bands (Taking Back Sunday, Starting Line etc), there's nothing from the album that particularly stands out.
Stick to Thursday - avoid this.

As for My Chemical Romance... well I downloaded (go on, shoot me) a couple of tracks and found them inoffensive enough; I'm looking forward to getting hold of this album as it's had quite a lot of positive feedback.

Emo.
Do you know what emo is? If you did, you wouldn't be calling MCR emo. What, just because they where a lot of black and sing songs that aren't all about love (like all of the top songs these days) they're emo?
My Chemical Romance - I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love
Slander! Havn't heard the MCR album but what i've heard hasn't sounded half bad... Thursday are are the pinnacle though...
Re: My Chemical Romance - I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love
Pinnacle? Thats a bit much for Thursday. Don't get me wrong I ADORE Thursday, I think they are definitely one of the bands out there really doing it and well. Surely the pinnacle of this genre would be Far, At The Drive-In or Fugazi? Just my opinion, I happen to believe these guys to be my Emo Godfathers. X

but the decision was made to keep the ratings because the readers would just moan that they didn't know what was going on
there's going to be someone moaning whatever we do
right?

Re: My Chemical Romance - I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love
However, I don't agree - MCR are NOTHING special at all. Thursday are fantastic IMHO....as I said, Geoff Rickley produced most/all of MCR's debut....therefore, you should really give Geoff/Thursday more respect!!
And you like the 22-20s and the Zutons....and you said that the Phonics are better than Thursday......ummmm...sorry...NO.
Re: My Chemical Romance - I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love
Well...
...they may've gone in a different direction to Thursday but after hearing The Black Parade, I think we can safely agree MCR HAVE extended and developed their sound over three albums!
My Chemical Romance - I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love
My Chemical Romance - I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love
My Chemical Romance - I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love
My Chemical Romance - I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love
Well, I love MCR
But honestly, this is not one of the best albums you'll ever hear. And this is not an article about Thursday, peeps. It's just a mess. Not only was Frank Iero not on most of the tracks on this album, Gerard Way sounds drunk and mumbling through most of this album, so basically it's... mediocre drums and bass + awkwardly heavy metal style riffs + warbling mumbling screaming singer = kinda shit album.
I agree
It's not their best. But it was their first album. What can you expect? They were unexperienced. And as you can see from their newer music, they've gotten a lot better with more experience :)
