Björk: Declare Independence

"Start your own currency, make your own stamp" is the helpful advice Björk proffers on her new single 'Declare Independence'. Tsk, doesn’t she know fascism begins at home?

The track was mostly penned by long-time collaborator Mark Bell and so isn’t strictly speaking a Björk song anyway, unless you count the bug-eyed vocal she deposits over the top. It sounds like The Neptunes if they made hair metal with all the juices spat out. No wait a minute, scratch that last bit – that would sound fucking awful.

What we can safely say is that it’s pretty great, being one of those gratifying instances where Björk’s fruitier instincts are tethered to a sturdy enough composition to make its serrated edges worth impaling your ears on over repeated listens.

this is the only bjork

song that i honestly dislike.

the live version tears shreds off of this.

she sounds angrier. far angrier. and it's way louder and more intense.

really weird choice of single...

i like it because it's just a bit awkward and angry and stuff, and that's always fun, but it isn't really much of a song, and it's probably too long too.
