Nine Inch Nail: New LP; Reznor at the Helm, Grohl on Drums..

Grohl's still slagging himself around and Trent Reznor is bound to be still dressed in black, whilst making another opus...

Tenatively titled 'Bleed Through', the whatever-number-it-is (win a grin by posting how many albums they've done as a comment) new Nine Inch Nails album is getting talked about all over the net. Firstly because drum slut Dave Grohl hasn't done anything for a few days and is contributing some drum tracks to the new record.

But today Billboard are getting rather excited about the new news, which is that the conceptual genius playing-everything-but-what-Grohl-does, Mister Trent Reznor, has confirmed that he is self-producing the album at Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, California. It's not like he hasn't done it before as, he's notably produced and/or mixed everyone from Marilyn Manson and David Bowie to KMFDM, Megadeth and Peter Gabriel.

Reznor isn't doing it all alone: Alan Moulder (whose credits include the amazing production/mixing on Remy Zero's 'Villa Elaine', My Bloody Valentine, A Perfect Circle, Ride, Jesus and Mary Chain...) has been brought into the project as a "sounding board/co-producer/mixer," according to Trent. Oh, and Atticus Ross is serving as a programmer and "right-hand man."

The album is due in early 2005 via Interscope, and NIN have an extensive world tour planned to support it. Two other NIN-related items will precede the album in the Autumn: the DVD debut of the 1997 home video 'Closure' and a deluxe, double-disc edition of the 1994 album 'The Downward Spiral', remixed in 5.1 surround sound.

Thank god. Its been yonks since the last one. They've done 5 studio albums (The Downward Spiral, Pretty Hate Machine, Broken, Things Falling Apart and The Fragile), A live album (All that could have been) and a remix album (Further down the spiral). So 7, 8 if you include the original soundtrack to Quake (mid-90s PC shoot-em up). They're doing the soundtrack to Doom 3 as well, so 9.

Re: Nine Inch Nail: New LP; Reznor at the Helm, Grohl on Drums..

I have the Fragile.
Half great, half cack.
You've got to wonder why the two discs...

Nine Inch Nail: New LP; Reznor at the Helm, Grohl on Drums..

I realise I'm a geek. *cough*

Re: Nine Inch Nail: New LP; Reznor at the Helm, Grohl on Drums..

Wasn't things falling apart a remix album too? Whatever. This album may be fucking stunning.

Re: Nine Inch Nail: New LP; Reznor at the Helm, Grohl on Drums..

do you count live/soundtrack stuff as albums? i didn't think anyone did.. otherwise with all their live stuff Pearl Jam would have 10 zillion albums and everyone knows theyve only made 9 zillion :D

Nine Inch Nail: New LP; Reznor at the Helm, Grohl on Drums..

Along wih Fugazi, my favourite band. GAGGING for the album, and even more gagging to see them live. Cancel your shows on pain of DEATH this time, Mr Reznor. Britain deserves better! Strange he's using Grohl... perhaps it's just for some loops and guest beats, like he used Steven Perkins on Downward Spiral... I get the impression Dave Grohl is the most enthusiastic person on the whole planet... hope they still have Charlie Clouser in the live band... he was awesome on 'And All That Could Have Been', which is still, to my mind, the best live DVD I've ever seen (though 'Deuce', Korn's videos etc. DVD is looking to be a close second)

Nine Inch Nail: New LP; Reznor at the Helm, Grohl on Drums..

Shit. I just remembered that "Broken" was a single.

So (Not counting Remixes and Live albums....)
They have 3 albums. Pretty Hate Machine, Downward Spiral and The Fragile.

I listed the Soundtrack and live ones seperately, as I wasn't sure what the actual question was asking for....

Ah well. I look forward to the album anyway, it'll be interesting hearing them with live drums for a change.

Re: Nine Inch Nail: New LP; Reznor at the Helm, Grohl on Drums..

I agree that it's three albums. No arguments please.

Maybe I should have just asked for peoples favourite albums?
It's all these live ones and remix ones which made looking at Amazon to count how many albums they've got very confusing. I keep meaning to buy more of their stuff. Really love all the singles I've heard and the Fragile blew my brains upside my head a few years back.
So many albums I want to buy. If anyone wants to donate their albums, the dis hq address is on the website :)

He scored Natural Born Killers as well didn't he? Still not a proper NIN album. There are 3.

Nine Inch Nail: New LP; Reznor at the Helm, Grohl on Drums..

I really enjoyed The Fragile, i thought it was a real nasty.
Even tho it was over 2 discs (maybe it could have been one album) i really liked all the tracks, the dvd was pretty ace too ( left my US import copy by a computer when i was at uni, cost the missus £30!whoops :P).
He's pretty consistant and very creative is mr Reznor, ever noticed how Marilyn Manson went down the bog after he severed ties with them? Mechanical Animals was great, tho.

On the website, he lists himself as up to Halo 18 including Bleed Through, but he appears to count eveything as a halo.

Nine Inch Nail: New LP; Reznor at the Helm, Grohl on Drums..

Halo is just the catalogue number, but yes everything is counted as Halo even official video compilations.

Still is easily the best thing by NIN (particularly the version of 'The Becoming').

Nine Inch Nail: New LP; Reznor at the Helm, Grohl

3 Head Like A Hole - 3 track single
4. Sin - 4 track ep(with a cover of Get Down Make Love by queen)
5. Broken - fab
6. Fixed - rubbish
7. March Of The Pigs (2 cd's over here - 7 track ep over in the US)
8. The Downward Spiral - best album. ever.
9. Closer (2 cds here, 8 track in the us i think)
10. Further down The Spiral
10v2 Further Down The Spiral (UK and with awesome remixes of heresey and ruiner. seriously good remixes

on a side note, its interesting (if your a geek about record collecting) that most nin releases in the UK dont have a Halo number, just a catalog number. also. Into The Void was released as an EP in Austrailia only, no halo, and has Into the Void plus a few tracks from the Were In This Together.

anyway, i have some of this stuff for sale, in cd, tape, vinyl etc if your interested. :)

jon

p.s. back on topic, grohl drumming with reznor was suprising to say the least, but it should be good. So long as he changes the damn title..

12.

Re: Nine Inch Nail: New LP; Reznor at the Helm, Grohl on Drums..

i hear from most angles that his albums are pretty dross heavy. perhaps you could ask these fan types to assemble the greatest greatest and just live with that?

Re: Nine Inch Nail: New LP; Reznor at the Helm, Grohl on Drums..

doesnt he even count world tours as halos?

Nine Inch Nail: New LP; Reznor at the Helm, Grohl on Drums..

They definitely have twelve albums and I have proof. I'm holding them all in my hand at this very moment and I just phonedededed up Trento (what his BESTESTESTEST friends call him) and he was all like "Yeah yeah yeah, I totally got 12 albumseseses under the name Nine Inch Nails and they're all proper albums like, I don't count those non proper albums"

So in conclusion, C&A's just weren't selling enough to stay open in the UK

Nine Inch Nail: New LP; Reznor at the Helm, Grohl

NIN world tour! Wow :D

Nine Inch Nail: New LP; Reznor at the Helm, Grohl

Nine Inch Nail: New LP; Reznor at the Helm, Grohl on Drums..

It is amazing that his fan base is still so strong. I would never have expected there to be this many NIN fans on DIS.

Nine Inch Nail: New LP; Reznor at the Helm, Grohl on Drums..
