Ooh, I'm all giddy.
Fountains Of Wayne are to play a one-off London show at Islington Academy on Aug 23rd. This is in addition to their appearence on the NME stage at V2004.
New single, the Paul Simon-tastic 'Hey Julie', is released the same day - that's Aug 23rd, in case you weren't paying attention.
They're also to be included on a charity compilation CD compiled by They Might Be Giants' John Flansburgh. Entitled 'Future Soundtrack For America' and released on Aug 10th in the USA on indie label Barsuk, proceeds go to MoveOn.org and similar organisations. FoW are contributing a new version of 'Everything's Ruined', the original of which can be found on their debut, self-titled album.

Damn it. I was hoping for a completely new track when I read the story about the compilation somewhere else. Oh well. Hope it's a radical departure from the original.

Rats. I'm going to V in Stafford. My finances can't justify a trip to London too.

WHY???????????
no i mean seriously; what possible reason is there for this band's continued existence? i'm completely baffled. on the subject of the V festival, i went there a couple of years ago and it was essentially a Bland Young People Convention. fucking reeeally depressing people who'd taken time out from their middle-management/banking jobs to cheer on david gray and the fucking terrible beta band. joy.
Re: WHY???????????
I've never been and I never want to, despite the fact that one of the sites is 20 minutes from my house. It looks to me like someone took a festival, cleaned it's teeth, showered it (twice), gave it a shave, put it in one of those awful t-shirts with a Boots logo that says Beers (or similiar) and then promptly filled it with the aforementioned Mr Gray and his mor cronies.
My mum and dad would love it, which is precisely why it's so wrong. That said, Qotsa have turned up a couple of times....

Re: WHY???????????
yeah i went cos someone gave me a free ticket but i fucking regretted it. i'm not a big festival person in general but i'm pretty certain V is the total opposite of what a festival should be about. got odd looks for drinking non-sponsor alcohol at about noon while people were queuing. that and david gray says it all, really.
Re: WHY???????????
sounds like you'd fit right in, actually...
Re: WHY???????????
There are bits about the organisation of V I don't like. But in fairness, the line-ups have been improving a lot this last couple of years, and the 'new' stage was added once tickets had virtually gone - they didn't have to do it to sell tickets.
The best way to avoid the in-your-face sponsorship is to only stray from the NME stage when there's something you really like on elsewhere. At Staffs, at least... no idea about Chelmsford as I haven't been to that one for seven years.
