Beastie Boys: New Single & Album

The Beastie Boys are back with a new single and album, their first new material proper since 1998's 'Hello Nasty'. And we at DiS are keen to see what they have to offer...

The single, 'Ch Check It Out', has already been picking up airplay and is scheduled for release on May 31st. The album, 'To The Five Boroughs', the group's sixth studio set, will follow on June 14th .

The LP will be the band's first entirely self-produced affair. It has been recorded on and off over the past two years in their own New York studio, and the title is said to be a reference to the city that brought members Mike D, MCA and Adrock together.

1. Ch-Check It Out
2. Right Right Now Now

DiScuss: Is 'Ch Check It Out' as good a lead single as 'Intergalactic'? What's your favourite Beasties release so far? Are they still relevant, or have they left it too long?

Beastie Boys: New Single & Album

About bloody time.
No, the Beasties have not left it too long, and they'll always be relevant.
Fave release, album-wise, is Check Your Head. I guess most would opt for Paul's Boutique or Ill Communication, but there's something about Check...

...I think it reminds me of a good time in my life, that's all. That and all that shit about pirate treasure. Dope.

Re: Beastie Boys: New Single & Album

have to go with ill coms
i picked up check.. after a massive delay from my initial beasties buying splurge expecting it to mirror IC, but was a little disappointed
also: checked out Make Believe.
pretty tastey

Re: Beastie Boys: New Single & Album

All the pirate shit is on Licensed to Ill though, their first release. Check Your Head being in between Paul's Boutique and Ill Communication.

Re: Beastie Boys: New Single & Album

Nope...

The line I was referring to is on Check Your Head, track 18 I think...?

"Professor, what's another name for pirate treasure?"
"Well I think that's booty... booty... b-b-b-booty... that's what it is..."

and so on.

Beastie Boys: New Single & Album

ch check it out is brilliant, beats intergalactic for sure. can't wait for what's blatantly going to be quite an interesting album - given how long its been, their ages, the state of the world now etc etc i'm expecting it to be verrrrrry intruiging.

I'd buy it just for the name of track 14. such a cool word.

Beastie Boys: New Single & Album

"Paul's Boutique" will always be my favourite. It's just the least foreseeable sophomore album in history - everyone was still thinking of them as 3rd-rate comedy rap-rock goons, and they went and released something so smart, so weird and just so absorbing that it completely bombed commercially.

It took them four years last time and they still managed make a record that seemed relevant and exciting...I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, I think they might be able to do it again.

Is it wrong to admit to liking "licensed to ill"... cos I have to say I find it really funny and cool... sampling "I fought the law" on the first track, the comedy genius that is "girls"..., admittedly they got much more serious and I'm cool with that, but to soundtrack a party, it's great.

Re: Beastie Boys: New Single & Album

Girls?
To clean up my room?
To do the laundry?
Yeah... comedy genius alright!

Jackin' Mike D to my dismay.
Sorry.

i love the new single, the video is gravy too! (for those that haven't: check out the official beasties site for the video).

I have felt like the rhyming has gone a bit down-hill, 'in a world gone mad' really made me cringe even though I love the Beastie Boys more than any other band, but the beats and tunes are so good that you soon forget about the slightly suspect lyrics.

best album? thats a hard one....but the I would recommend the DVD anthology as possibly the best example of DVD power available. I just wish that I could have a CD of some of the remixes too.

However, its gotta be said I refuse to buy the new album if they don't tour. I missed out on the hello nasty tour cos I had an exam......I had a bad sense of priorities back then.

fingers crossed that this album is gonna be as good as all the others!

Re: Beastie Boys: New Single & Album

The 21 new remixes, plus all the existing ones off the afore mentioned, fucking fantastic DVD are available on iTunes now, so you can burn them off and stuff.

They'll be on some sort of file-sharing network too, but I don't know anything about those sort of things.

B.boys rock and the new album should be pretty interesting as long as they've updated their style a bit like they did for Hello Nasty.

Ill Communication is still the best though!

Beastie Boys: New Single & Album

Chuck D said, in an interview, that he was sure Public Enemy had the best album of '89 (Fear Of A Black Planet)...... UNTIL he heard "Paul's Boutique". Yo, that's BIG props from a GIANT of Hip-Hop. Paul's definitely tops my list, with CYH comin' in at a distant 2nd, and Hello Nasty to show. I really feel like "Ill Communication" was like an out-take collection from CYH, although "Get It Together" may be their dopest single ever.
