Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

Blur are to return to the studio to record a new EP, flying in the face of speculation that 'Think Tank' would be the band's last effort. Furthermore, they want a certain Mr Coxon to come back...

The band are to head to the studio this week to record the new EP, their first new material since their last rather impressive LP hit the shelves in 2002. Damon Albarn, speaking to 6 Music, revealed that the doors are wide open for a potential Graham Coxon return: "It is a realistic prospect - the only reason he's not in the band is because he didn't feel he was getting enough say. We're totally capable of making music together. I can forget about all the other things."

Meanwhile, Albarn is also said to be working on songs for Gorillaz and is preparting to work with the remaining members of Fela Kuti's band in Nigeria. It's possible that some of the songs from his recent experimental vinyl-only LP 'Democrazy' will be developed and included in the above projects.

DIScuss: Do you still like Blur? Was Think Tank their best album? Should Graham Coxon re-join the band?

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

Yes. No. Yes

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

No. No. Yes. :-)

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

Kinda. Bollocks was it. Certainly fucking not, and they should split up.

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

Yes. No, but it was still pretty good. Yes.

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

My thoughts: Yes, No (but it was bloody good) and YES!!

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

Yes. No, but it was better than the reviews said it was. Yes.

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

No; I've tried but Damon Albarn makes it impossible. No. No, and he should've left after Reading and Leeds 2000.

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

yep yep no

Re: Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

Didn't like the bands early stuff but love Think Tank, by far their best album yet and should Coxon return - not sure about that one.

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

"I can forget about all the other things."

is it just me or does that statement seem kind of desperate-sounding from damon?

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

Yes. Yes. Maybe.

Think Tank was ace and the last one with Coxon (13) wasn't. But then all the stuff before was, and that's how Blur got where they are. I read their book recently (3862 Days by Stuart Maconie) and after that, I just think it's a shame if they (Damon and Graham) can't at least be friends. It would be better if Graham didn't rejoin if that's the only way they could manage it, and they made a fantastic record without him.

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

Graham's latest solo album more or less eclipses Think Tank (and anything since Modern Life) anyway - they certainly need him more than he needs them, and to be brutally honest I cant see any way he'll be returning any time soon, if at all.

Still, Albarn's more than capable of writing decent enough pop songs to keep them going for another couple of albums if he wants to, and doesn't get too obsessed with all this world music bollocks.

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

yep.no.maybe.

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

Coxon should never go back, his solo stuff is much better than any Blur.Albarn is shit without him

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

yes, no, yes - they can hope

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

Think Tank was a beautiful album, I think I like it better than most of their early work. Having said, is it a coincidence that the (joint) best track on the album was the only track to feature Coxon?

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

Think Tank was great...I can't wait after the next EP but please...bring back Coxon...He's the only guitar player who could fit in the band (believe it or not...but I couldn't stand for Ex-The Verve Simon Tong). So, my thoughts: Yes for the first, No for the second.

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

Think Tank is a great album - quite different from the previous few of course, but good in it's own right. Damon does write good songs (Out Of Time is undeniably beautiful) and Graham is one of the worlds best guitarists (I think!), so yes they shold get back together because a band almost always makes better songs than the members can individually, simply because all the best ideas and skills can be combined.

I'd be suprised if Graham did rejoin though, but I'd be pleased.

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

Yes.
No, but the thought might cross your mind in the middle of 'We've got a File on You'.
Yes, if it isn't half-arsed.

Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

anyone whos heard the latest Coxon single can see why he doesnt want to be in Blur.
Spot on graham, yes you prob were a twat to the rest of them, but going alone and hifi is the best step in years for you. good lad!

Re: Blur: Ready New EP And Call Out To Coxon

I read that article and I swear Damon was on about how Graham was a mean drunk and all this about him just being a cunt with whom they didn't want to have to deal with anymore. So I'm not sure if I rely too much on anything Damon says to the press. I remember when Damon was reeling from the success of Parklife (or sorry Damon, "Pahlife") he was saying all this shite about not needing America, and that ultimately it didn't matter to him whether they (Americans) ever bought his work. Yet the minute The Great Escape failed he was finally willing to give Grahams tastes a listen. Those tastes consisting at the time of primarily American indie bands so... Although I think Damon is dead cool he is a confusing guy huh? But that's why he's such a beaute eh?

yes. YES. YES!
