Black Keys sign with Nonesuch

Spankingly awesome blues-rockin' duo The Black Keys - who recently burnt the ears off this writer with a stunning ATP set - have put pen to paper on a US deal with Warner Music subsidiary Nonesuch Records, home to Wilco and David Byrne.

The Ohio-based duo were previously signed to Fat Possum in the States, but left the label last month. Drummer Patrick Carney told US website Pitchfork about their move:

"The Fat Possum dudes are good friends of ours and they're an awesome label, but we just needed to see what else was out there. We just wouldn't fit in on most of the labels, I guess. A lot of labels talk about how, you know, 'We're just indie and we don't care if you don't have a hit record,' but it's like 85 per cent bullshit.

"We were getting dicked around talking to labels. I feel bad because in the past couple of years, so many bands have signed to true major labels. Even Sub Pop - they're looking to sell records. Most indies now are trying to be majors."

The first fruit of this new relationship will ripen in time for a September release. Magic Potion is the album's name, and its eleven tracks can be yours to keep from September 11th.

i adore nonesuch

I have an awesome compilation of their bands

Their set was certainly stunning at ATP

I think it gave me tinnitus though.

Awesome

Looking forward to the new record. Being the support act for Radiohead this month is fucking brilliant. Go Black Keys!

Great band

would love to see them live again, saw them in Glasgow a few years ago and looking forward to the new album.

Goood band

Good for them! Y'know, if it actually does turn out to be good. Which i'm sure it will. Plus they might make it onto Jools Holland and make Dave Gilmour and Paul Simon look even worse than usual!
