Danger Mouse Unveils 'The Grey Album'

DJ and producer Danger Mouse (of rap duo DM & Jemini) has unveiled his new 'Grey Album' to the press.

Taking the vocals from Jay Z's 'Black Album' and mixing them with the music from The Beatles' 'White Album', DM admits that whilst the music isn't instantly obvious as being the work of the Fab Four, all the music is sampled from the legendary album.

The album will be available from specialist hip hop stores in March.

Re: Danger Mouse Unveils 'The Grey Album'

Actually I think it's a really good idea. Alright, he might not be the most imaginative guy around, but Jay-Z is fundamentally a very talented emcee and that comes accross over DM's Beatles beats (which themselves work surprisingly well) - on the original "Black Album" tracks he sounds so dull because the beats are so run-of-the-mill.

It looks like a novelty idea - and maybe, in places, it sounds like one - but there's actually some really good moments on it. I can see DM's beats scaling the charts - in fact, I can see DM & Jemini making the next "Hey Ya!", which can only be a good thing.

better hurry up before he gets sued. or they get withdrawn. or whatevers gonna happen.

they'll probably cost a fortune on ebay then.

Re: Danger Mouse Unveils 'The Grey Album'

He was ordered to stop pressing and distributing the records yesterday. According to posts on the Non-Prophets boards, Ebay are removing the item from their listings.

Since he only put out 3000 copies of the album, he doesn't anticipate being sued. EMI's attitude toward a project which (due to its nature and scale) is hardly likely to affect their royalties is disappointing but - let's face it - hardly surprising.
