Exclusive: Babyshambles demo new material; ponder offers

Doherty takes his time; plays cards close to chest.
Following the inaccurate news that Babyshambles have been dropped, DiS has the skinny on exactly what is going down.
The band are heading into Turnmills studios, London to demo new tracks for their second album. The studio time is being donated by the organisers of this year's Get Loaded festival, which the band headline on Sunday 27th August.
Contrary to previous reports, the band have been offered a deal for the second album by Rough Trade, as well as a number of other undisclosed labels. The band released this statement earlier today:
"We feel it's now time to focus on the music, rather than the negative media attention we've recently experienced. The music has gone in a different direction than people might expect, and reflects the challenging times since Down In Albion; it's both reflective and optimistic."

babyshambles live recently. they were pretty poor. they played time for heroes though, so that kind of made up for it a bit.

Every time this or any other site write about anything to do with doherty can we all make make a massive effort to say NOTHING on the subject. If this happens, then maybe he will go away faster than we mortals even pray for...
This guy really *is* a genius
if he can put out a record that is the musical equivalent of whipping it out on stage and pissing all over the front row and yet *still* get more press than the next dozen acts combined.
The next record's probably going to be a disaster too. But we all know that we're all going to listen to it at least once. Who knows, maybe Kate Moss writes some of the songs this time. Bound to be an improvement.

hypocritical?
Aside from Pete Doherty being a bit of a twat (arent all smack heads?) theres no denying his musical talent, and that of the babyshambles band...it only takes one look at the utter dog shit put out by dirty pretty things to see who was the brains behind the libertines. Down in albion is a great album and i dont doubt that had any of u heard it without knowing anything about pete doherty u would be more aware of its merit. it also seems an increasing trend for people to totally slag him off because he is an unpredictable junkie...hypocritical perhaps when im sure many of your musical idols behaved exactly the same (jimi hendrix, jim morrison, and didnt kurt cobain paint drug induced pictures with his own shit and blood!?) but i suppose thats different...?
Who Cares?
The Libertines were funny, shambolic and refreshing but Babyshambles are a boring joke, and a not very good one at that. Who cares if they have a deal or not, it ain't going to change the fact that they are shite.

Actually the libertines were neither funny or refreshing. Perhaps shambolic. Remove all the preening, funky second hand clothes and junk and you just get old rehashed music. Music. That's what its all about, and the Libertines did nothing fresh or original.

...when they show up they can be a fantastic live band. Trouble is if you're on smack & crack you only tend to turn up when you need some readies.
And you just know when he gets his hands on an advance things won't be improving.
