hurray! hopefully they'll be just as brain-achingly dull live so i can dig out my old rant about them spouting off so much and making ace cd's and then spoiling it by getting onstage and being all nice and polite like lovely old mrs whiting down the road and forgetting to put on an actual show.

it did annoy me the way they split just as i finished that, therefore making it irrelevant...

as much as I love the dawn parade.. I'm gonna miss having barney to drool over.. and mole and ben of course.. Greg was the one I hardly talked to! hehe.

It's like mba.. it's weird now.. It feels wrong. Bands shouldn't split and make all their fans sad then reform all wrong.. it makes us all unstable..

Anyway.. yay for wider than the january skies remaining in the set.. more chances for lellie to bawl her eyes out.. it's the bestest song ever ever..

The thing is, as a fan of The Prawns I can see how it will be weird, as I can see how weird it is for some people to see MBA with a different line-up. But if you look at it from mine and Greg's points of view, we desperately wanted, and still want, our bands to succeed, because we believe in it, we believe in our songs and in ourselves, and because we have literally fuck all else to live for. Neither of us wanted our original line-ups to fall apart, but they did, and in both cases it wasn't (directly) our doing - the other members just had enough. And while we understand that it's strange for the few people who ever got to hear of us, the fact is that it is VERY FEW people who ever bought our records, came to gigs, gave a shit. Less that 7,000 people bought the first MBA album. On the album tour we played to probably an average of 20 people a night. I still believe that our songs, MY songs can and will make a difference to someone's life, I'm proud of what we did and fucked in the ass if I'm never gonna play Miss Black America or Talk Hard again. Those songs are my life; it's not much of a life, but it's the only life I have.

Clearly Seymour doesn't have anything better to do - how many rock stars do you know that frequent a fucking message board? I'm just glad he's not in the Darkness - whether he admits it or not he'd love to be.

It'll be wierd. I don't think the name should be kept though. It should be changed to keep The Dawn Parade as sometihing beautiful, passionate and special. In the way The Hip Down was a beautifully drunken shambollic spectacle but was also perfect. Because it won't be The Dawn Parade anymore. Just like Miss Black America arn't Miss Black America anymore. Not to the fans anyway.

Which is exactly how i feel. It feels wrong to reform when only 1/4 of the original is reformed, but if starting a fresh band is the other option, do i really want all these great songs put away forever never to be played again?
I saw The Fall the other week, or rather Mark E Smith with a backing band young enough to be his children, but fuck was it good. But then his new material excites me as much as the shit he was doing two decades ago, and somehow the spark, for me at least, with MBA has gone. I love the old singles, still listening to the album oh so regularly (and have just gotten a friend in San Fransisco into them), but somehow the new material lacks that bit of extra something that makes you love a band, makes you give a fuck and drive godknowswhere to go see them in some shithole. I listen to Gish's EP, and there's that magic there, go back to the new MBA line up, and its gone.....
Maybe Gish only wrote 3 tracks, maybe he wrote 1, or none, or 11, maybe he was involved in most of them at some level, but some level where he can add that bit extra to move it up a level, which then takes the vocals etc up a notch and makes everything so special.
Maybe i still love MBA, maybe i really don't give a fuck anymore.

I dunno i always felt that Greg was the dawn parade, i mean the others were great, but it was all about greg and his songwritting for me.

Where as with MBA, even tho he sounds like a cock from what iv heard, Gish's guitar parts and general godlyness was what made them great for me

Okay it'll be all abit odd... Although personally anything that Greg happens to be involved in is going to be fantastic.
Saw the new line-up play an acoustic set last night, was just as good... can't wait for more!
