DiS can exclusively reveal that The Dawn Parade are back together with a new line up and new songs.
Frontman Greg McDonald emailed DiS to say the new look Dawn Parade will play the Cambridge Boat Race on Saturday January 31st. McDonald told fans to expect "New songs like 'World On Fire' and 'Broke On Angel Street' but we’ll still be playing old tunes such as 'Wider Than The January Skies' and 'The Hole In My Heart'."
The new line up is rumored to include a new guitarist and bassist, a singing drummer, and two female backing singers. McDonald will play guitar, harmonica and keyboards.
The original Dawn Parade split in July of this year having played over 250 gigs in two years. Their 2002 single 'Hole In My Heart' was named 'Single Of The Year' by Rolling Stone's 'Well Hung At Dawn' column, and made John Peel's 'Festive Fifty'. In 2003, the band made their live debut on Radio One with a session from Maida Vale for the John Peel show. More recently 'Wider Than The January Skies' appeared on the new 'Love Music, Hate Racism' album 'Fear Of A Black Kennet', and was described as "Dewy eyed and beautiful" by the NME.
A new single is expected from the band in the New Year.

Please don't let it happen to the Dawn Parade (hopefully it won't, i feel that Greg is more involved in writing than Seymour, and isn't as relient on a genuis like figure such as Gish....)

it did annoy me the way they split just as i finished that, therefore making it irrelevant...

hmm.. it won't be the same..
It's like mba.. it's weird now.. It feels wrong. Bands shouldn't split and make all their fans sad then reform all wrong.. it makes us all unstable..
Anyway.. yay for wider than the january skies remaining in the set.. more chances for lellie to bawl her eyes out.. it's the bestest song ever ever..

Re: hmm.. it won't be the same..
on the one hand, the band doesn't sound as good as it used to and the new songs seem to be missing that anthemic magic
on the other, i read this like that, and fall in love with MBA all over again.
i fell in love with your passion. its not on show so often now, but i'll still go along to the shows just in case the magic comes out again

"I'm proud of what we did and fucked in the ass if I'm never gonna play Miss Black America or Talk Hard again"
But what about Human Punk? eh? I've been shocked by its absence recently...

Re: hmm.. it won't be the same..
I saw The Fall the other week, or rather Mark E Smith with a backing band young enough to be his children, but fuck was it good. But then his new material excites me as much as the shit he was doing two decades ago, and somehow the spark, for me at least, with MBA has gone. I love the old singles, still listening to the album oh so regularly (and have just gotten a friend in San Fransisco into them), but somehow the new material lacks that bit of extra something that makes you love a band, makes you give a fuck and drive godknowswhere to go see them in some shithole. I listen to Gish's EP, and there's that magic there, go back to the new MBA line up, and its gone.....
Maybe Gish only wrote 3 tracks, maybe he wrote 1, or none, or 11, maybe he was involved in most of them at some level, but some level where he can add that bit extra to move it up a level, which then takes the vocals etc up a notch and makes everything so special.
Maybe i still love MBA, maybe i really don't give a fuck anymore.

Where as with MBA, even tho he sounds like a cock from what iv heard, Gish's guitar parts and general godlyness was what made them great for me

Anyway, as anonymous posters have said and will say again and again, who really gives a fuck?

Scenes can get so incestous (i cant spell!) and painfully involved. I can see what Seymour means when he says about reforming, i think he has a point. i also think he has a right to reform and to carry on making music and he should exercise this right.
Its just us lot that its tough on. But thats exactly it. Its tough.
We'll get over it.
love kisses and fairydust
