EES: Danko Very Much

It seems that the biggest-haired, most wild-eyed, and basically the most rocking Japanese band of the moment, Electric Eel Shock, just cannot get enough of touring!

The band have announced 40 dates around Europe with Canadian outfit Danko Jones, including 5 UK dates in December:

December

Tue 9th - Leeds Cockpit
Wed 10th - Glasgow Garage (K-Fest gig)
Thur 11th - Manchester Academy 3 (K Fest)
Fri 12th - Birmingham Academy 2 (K Fest)
Sat 13 - London (UK) Mean Fiddler (K Fest)

Having been on the road regularly since October 2002, the band have built up a loyal fan base (and who can blame them with their upbeat trashy rock songs and goofball onstage antics). This year the band have already completed three UK tours, embarked on two US tours (currently on their second), landed a stage headlining spot at the Roskilde Festival, and even supported metal giants Sepultura in Germany!

And if that's not enough to satisfy your appetite for Japanese cock-rock, the band have also announced the details of their next single: live favourite 'Do The Metal' is due for release through Mighty Atom Records in late November. As the band would say, "Usagi Chan!!!" Not that we know what they're actually talking about...

EES: Danko Very Much

Usagi-chan is probably a reference to a name. -chan is a suffix for a name, at any rate. and the lead character from Sailormoon was called Usagi in the original Japanese...

Re: EES: Danko Very Much

Wow, Sailormoon.
On an anime tip, I always loved Appleseed. But I was a geek for a long time. Saw Spirited Away the other day though - very VERY good.

Re: EES: Danko Very Much

I am still of the old school mould. Watched Ghost In The Shell the other night and was gonna watch Akira too but fell asleep. Doomed Megalopolis was a classic set as was Cybercity Oedo 808! *still very much a geek*

Re: EES: Danko Very Much

Cybercity Oedo was fucking kick ass! Well, the middle of the three episodes was anyway - the one with the big android kinda thing that kicked a whole lot of ass. The one about the guy with the nail varnish and white hair was lame. I had to study Ghost in the Shell when I was at college. Got an A on it. Guess I'm still a geek too.

Doomed Megalopolis was the one with the guy that looked a bit like M Bison from Streetfighter 2, right?

Talking about SF2, anyone see the manga movie of it? I still have it, but it sucks terribly.

Re: EES: Danko Very Much

Mike, this conversation could go on for ages :) I agree, the best of the CO: 808 was the middle episode where the robot gets his butt thrashed on the scaffolding of the building... was a damn good episode. You are correct about Doomed Megalopolis, it is indeed the one with the guy who looked like Bison but he had a major thing about pentagrams as well. As for the SF2 Manga movie, I think it is fantastic! The soundtrack is brilliant (KMFDM, Silverchair & Korn to name a few) and the story line is pretty good, especially as there was a focus on Ken for once!

Re: EES: Danko Very Much

Ken was always my favourite (indeed, Super SF2 is currently wedged in my megadrive - 12 hit combos away!), but he was listening to Alice in Chains in his car! What the...? I haven't played with Chun Li (heh heh) since the film and the boobs... ergh. Grossly out of proportion.

usagi chan

they told me it meant rock and roll in japanese.

they could have been lying, of course...

Re: usagi chan

Usagi Chan is used as a rock n roll shout out by the band. They do however write obcene things in japanese on your Cds and then tell you 'that is your name in japanese...' so it could mean anything.

Double Peace.

Rich

Re: usagi chan

Yes, they were lying. It does NOT mean "Rock & Roll". It's the name of their tour bus and (probably) means either "Rabbit Man" or "Fluffy Rabbit" depending on who you ask.

You'll be pleased to know that "Kampi" does actually mean 'Beer'...
