Californian not-quite-nu-metallers Deftones are to return to record stores with fresh material this September, according to MTV.
The band's fifth studio album proper, which follows last year's collection of b-sides, is scheduled for a release on September 12. As yet, no title has been mentioned. A single, though, has been made official: 'Hole In The Earth' is due just prior to the album.
Frontman Chino Moreno spoke to the music channel about the seventeen tracks they've thus far recorded:
"The heavy stuff is really, really heavy, like really aggressive, and the stuff that's sweet and weird or whatever is sweeter and weirder. A lot of people will probably compare it to White Pony, because that was one of the most diverse records that we did. This one's probably the most diverse record we've done."
Y'see, I totally dig White Pony, so this news = exciting. Yup.

i hope it's better than their last album
it better be, they've taken long enough on it..
excited
but it's about time. i've heard it's taken so long because chino has disappeared up his own bottom.
FUCK YES!
deftones' self-titled album is goooood!
team sleep, not so great.
Fuckin' A!
my face = :D
Team Sleep...
...are alright, although alot the album did sound a bit like filler.
Quite looking foward to a new Deftones record, but really hope that its nowhere near as long as 17 tracks!
yes yes yes!
and Team Sleep are good, too many tracks on the album perhaps, but when its good its GOOD
team sleep album...
what was it called, and how good is it? i heard one TS song and i quite liked it so i would like to hear the album in full.
White Pony's best!
So this - could be bester!
..
s'not great. aint worth the cash they be chargin, like.
almost but..
not-quite-nu-metal? because everyone *knows* that nu-metal is rubbish but they're not...?
deftones even managed to do good covers of Helmet and Sade songs - skills.
it was on the £5 wall in fopp for a while, which is certainly worth it.
give em a myspace search and see if you like whatever other songs they have up there.
That's because
Helmet are fan-fucking-tastic.
!
This is awesome news. One of the two most anticipated albums this year for me.
The other being the Kelis one obviously.
true that
but when people cover Helmet it sucks - always...
except when deftones did Sinatra.
