The London four-piece remain guarded on the details...
In an online exclusive interview with Bloc Party this afternoon, bassist Gordon Moakes revealed their second album will be released within the next six months.
Talking to DiS before their headlining performance at the Royal Albert Hall, London in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust, DiS gleaned a few details on album number two.
"In six months... we'll have the record out," stated Moakes cautiously, adding, "I think our pressure is to innovate more. I don't think anyone expects us to be more commercial. Our aim is to make the best music we possibly can."
The band revealed that no final decision had been reached on a producer though they were 'very close' to deciding.
Moakes also added that his work on the much-vaunted Yourcodenameis:milo collaborative Desert Sessions-esque album is already complete, "I don't know if Graham Coxon has done it or is going to do it," he said "Ross from The Futureheads did one and Lucas from Maximo Park was just about to last I heard. It'll be out when they've got enough for a mini-album or EP."
Bloc Party play the V Festival this August and Coachella Festival in the United States next month. You can read the full interview with the band on Drowned in Sound later this week.

oooh
first post on this one
interesting
What's this...
...Desert Sessions thing all about then?
!
The might Milo invite bands or people in band to come up to their studio, record a track in 24 hours. Reuben and Tom Vek have done one each so far as well (I think?).
I can't wait for it personally.
i assumed they would
have already started recording by now. six months strikes me as a bit of a tight schedule if they've not even picked a producer yet, i'll be surprised if this happens..
nah
most of the songs are written and they're rehearsing loads. i reckon they'll do it. pre-production for two weeks, 1-2 months recording, 2 weeks mixing, 5 days mastering, then the campaign begins, manufacture takes about a month for something of this size...
six months = no problem.
hmm!
thats two of my questions from the board answered...
wonder what he'd call the 8th day?
or what he thinks of bamos' hair dilemma?
both are answered
and will be in the interview
yay! Within 6 months!
can't wait. It better not be more Two More Years type stuff though. Looking forward to the desert sessions thing very muchly also. :)
awesome news..
...the new songs stood up well against all the older material when i saw them, so hopefully they will sound as good on record
I hope it's good.
I don't expect it to be so maybe it will be.
ironically I liked 2 More Years
and this is coming from someone who isn't silly daft about them whilst feeling it would be creatively counter productive to slag off. More She's Hearing Voices please
sorry..
What's exclusive about this?
I've heard this from five different places before clicking here.
I think you'll find this was here
before said stories circulated.
yep
had this story up last night before the gig had even finished.
I
was at that gig! I thought Biffy and Bloc Party were ace, but the Royal Albert Hall is the strangest place to put that kind of gig in. Everyone was just sat in chairs, with a few pockets of people trying to dance. And I felt hideously embarressed for Mystery Jets and Biffy CLyro, because an awful lot of people were staying in the bar until Bloc Party came on. Which pissed me off greatly, as i wanted the empty seats in front of the stage...
Man!!
I cant wait i love them some of there songs sound a little strange at first but after a couple of listens u start to love them w/a passion
