Bowie, Spiritualized and more contribute to new War Child album
‘Hope’ will have a total of 17 tracks and feature, among others:
David Bowie – ‘Loving The Alien’, with new anti-war lyrics
New Order – ‘Vietnam’ (Jimmy Cliff cover)
Moby – ‘Nearer’ (new song)
Spiritualized – ‘Hold On’ (new song)
Billy Bragg – ‘The Wolf Covers Its Tracks’ (new song)
George Michael – ‘The Grave’ (Don McLean's anti-war song)
Beth Orton – ‘Ooh Child’ (cover of something or other)
Yusuf Islam – ‘Peace On Earth’ (re-recorded version of a Cat Stevens track)
The War Child charity was set up to stand on the twin beliefs “that we’re not free to ignore an innocent victim’s plea for help and that children are the seed-corn of society, its future hope.”
The earliest War Child compilation was released in 1995, entitled ‘Help’. For a rundown on how the album was conceived and who featured on it, visit this website.
