Monkeys plan ahead, record acceptance speech

Arctic Monkeys, currently on tour with Maximo Park et al on an NME-sponsored jaunt, have recorded an acceptance speech in advance of tonight's Brit Awards.

The Sheffield four-piece are nominated in the category of Best British Breakthrough Act, and it's believed that they're well ahead of their rivals (Editors, Magic Numbers) in terms of votes - it's a category that's voted for by the public, via Radio 1.

The band play Portsmouth Guildhall tonight. DiS editor Colin Roberts will be there. Don't get him too drunk, please.

hmmmmmm

im that cool that i only heard these for the first time a few weeks ago. yes i live under a rock...AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA!

with Elvis?

With Elvis?

no don't be silly...Fats Domino!

i'll bet

the acceptance is shite. just like the whole fucking show. but i'm going to watch it anyway, just to see spam face wilson fuck up.

Acceptance...

speach?????

...

Good, fast editing there.

The Monkeys

Are getting a bit too big for their own boots dont you think? Sure they are pretty good, "Fake tales..." and "From ritz to the rubble" were classics, but the album ain't no great debut! I hope something very sharp pricks them on their little sheffield bottoms, cos they are being a bit arrogant of late

Who is Elvis?

Never heard of him ;)

i hope

they win loads of awards and get rich. but that doesn't mean i like them, because i don't. that much.

I was...

at the Guildhall last night. Maximo Park and We Are Scientists sets were both far superior to the pretty much by-the-numbers Monkeys set... they walked on and Alex just kind of sneered, "So, we won that Brit then" before starting playing. Barely any chatter with the crowd and they really didn't seem like they wanted much to be there...

Forty minutes later they were done. I was bored far before then. I left during the last song (A Certain Romance, which went a bit wanky near the end) so I could go talk to We Are Scientists instead.

He's a shy lad

Leave him alone.

Still, between them and Tunners, two acts I like won awards this year. It's a record!

Shy?

Hmm... Everything I've heard about them has said that he's gone from a normal unassuming teenage lad to some swaggering cocky upstart, and whilst I really didn't want to think that was the case, what he acted like at the Guildhall kind of confirmed the rumours in my eye.

Still <3 the music though.
