Test Icicles: "F*ck the ULU"
Last night's Test Icicles show in London was marred by entry problems.
When a show is advertised as ages 14+, you'd generally expect to get inside if you were 15, right? Not last night at London's University of London Union (ULU) show. The door staff were requesting photo ID from all and sundry that has provoked reponses from both headline band Test Icicles (pictured) and tour support Help She Can't Swim.
Rory of Test Icicles proclaimed the door staff as "a load of thugs with the IQ of 26", via a Myspace bulletin this morning, apologising sincerely for the problems, despite the fault lying at the feet of the venue. Help She Can't Swin ended their statement with a simple "THE ULU SUCKS DICK".
There has been a complaint drafted by DiS message board user ma0sm, which you can get at by clicking here.

ME:
"Fuck the Test Icicles"
well
That's not a comment on their views or anything, I just think they're deeply shit.
I went to a Mchine Head concert at The Astoria once
(I was young OK) and anyway, the entire sound system went for about 30 minutes. There was nearly a riot. It was pretty cool.
Worst
gig going experience?
Cat Power, Shepherds Bush. She kept stopping songs half way through to tune her guitar, she'd only play a quarter of the song and go into another one. She kept looking at the floor, mumbling something about being drunk, she actually kept apologising for the show, asked how much it cost us to get in (£16) and she was like "oh man, i'm really sorry"
i concur
i have to agree with you on that one
that was
one of my favourite shows.
Worst gig experience?
The Wildhearts (still my favourite band) in Dudley in 2001 upon reforming. The bass player was still having problems and they ended up dragging him offstage and replacing him MID-SONG (the bass player from the support band was in a Wildhearts tribute act and knew all the songs). Then he tried to get back on stage when he could barely stand.
It wasn't very pretty.
Babyshambles
Blackpool
but
that is one of my favourite gig memories.
the way she thought i'd be funny to get all the lights turned on and play as people leave.
totally playing with the idea of what a gig is whilst struggling to deal with the spotlight, like any normal person would.
x
.
wow, that sounds awesome...
...
I once saw The Bandits.
she's a bampot
simple as
...
i once saw The Stands AND Alfie in the same gig. *wince*
That show
was ace. Not as good as when I saw her at Union Chapel (which is my favourite gig ever) but much better then when she played ATP the week prior to the SBE show. The ATP set was just incredibly dull.
ULU
is the pits anyway, it just reminds me of a big school hall. Theres no atmosphere and if they don't open the front bar its impossible to get drinks.
I've seen some great shows there but they all would have been better somewhere else. Pretty much anywhere else in fact, even the Astoria. ULU is a horrid, soulless shithole.
Not as bad as
Brixton Academy. The crush to get out of there is an accident waiting to happen.
next time i see you
im gonna totally play with the idea of what a handshake is and, um, rape you.
or something.
you get my point
maybe.
steps?
Worst thing I ever saw was Steps at Rollerworld when I was 15. I remember thinking ha ha! as if these guys are ever going to get big! famous last words....
My worst gig... J Mascis and the Fog
was really great until Bobby Gillespie smacked my brother around the head with a mike stand.
Five stitches, four hours in casualty. Tons of fun for me, but worse for him.
falling
my mate thought it would be great to crowd surf at a hundred reasons a few years ago. He got dropped and meant i ahd to watch him in casualty for 3 hours whilst he got seen to.
Whilst Drunk off my tits I had to try and repeat what happened to the slightly attractive looking nurse. Who then passed us along to a butch looking doctor.
never again.
I renember that
Werent they playing the stooges'no fun' and after it happened and bobby left Mike watt was like 'well that was no fun'
Maybe
I didn't get the "joke" but there's a certain level of acceptance that one has in mind when going to a gig. I doubt she was tragically pathetic on purpose but if she was then that's not very fair on people paying to see her. Moving on....
Test Icicles
Liverpool bar fly 2005.
The worst band
I've ever seen - thankfully, I didn't pay any money to see them. And before anyone pipes up about me "not getting the joke", can you please all piss off back to your deeply ironic lives in New Cross and Shoreditch.
probably
Sum 41. bunch of wankers.
well
i like test icicles..
...
Does having your jaw broken outside the venue count as worst gig experience?
Babyshambles
Blackpool.
Yes, me too. And i had my bastard watch stolen off my wrist.
Babyshambles...
in Blackpool also.
One of the most uncomfortable experiences of my life. So sad to watch.
The only reason I stayed til the end was because I had beer...
Babyshambles
astoria. or maybe it was brixton, i cant remember but pete didnt show up and people went a bit crazy
everytime .......
i hear the name of the Fucking "test Icicles" i want to rip somebodys voice box out of their throat, candidate for worst name ever...i couldnt care less about the news bulliten, just wanted to get my point across
