Glasgow Academy: opening band announced today
Poor old Barrowlands – Glasgow has a great, big new venue to rival it. The 2,500 capacity Carling Academy finally opens on Mar 26th. The young nippers who will be the first band to play there will be non-other than... DEACON BLUE.
If watching Lorraine MacKintosh spank her tambourine floats your boat, then you know where to go with your £23.50 + booking fee.
Other nippers due to play at the venue include Bryan Ferry, Inspiral Carpets, Massive Attack and, uh, Sugababes.
It looks like the legendary Barrowland venue (slightly smaller capacity) still gets all the credible bands then, and indie kids can look forward to bouncing on its sticky floor for years to come.
Carling Academy is owned by the same people responsible for Brixton Academy, Shepherd’s Bush Empire, and the Academys (or should that be Academies?) in Bristol and Birmingham.
