Win a record deal with Fierce Panda

Temptation Records signings Medium 21 and The Rain Band are going on tour in Feb/Mar, and sister label Fierce Panda will have a demo box for you to pop your CDs into.

If you fancy 'winning' a single-deal with the Panda label, then read on. "All any aspiring musicians have to do is come along to one of the Rain Band/Medium 21 shows and drop their CDR or cassette off in the demo box, which will be positioned on the merchandise stall. The box will be at all fifteen shows, and at the end of the tour will be transported under lock and key to the Temptation/fierce panda headquarters in Holloway, North London. The A&R team will then diligently play each and every demo handed in on the tour, a winner will be picked and that act will be granted the opportunity to release a one-off single on fierce panda, for which fierce panda will pay all recording, manufacturing and marketing costs. The one basic rule is that, by hook or by crook, the demo must find its way into the demo box. No matter the quality of the entries, someone MUST win this competition."

The tour starts on Feb 18th in Cambridge. Full list of dates can be found on Medium 21's profile page here.

Competition rules can be found in the news section on the Panda website.

Win a record deal with Fierce Panda

What a cheap and faceless way of getting people to a gig!! Just 'cause no-one wants to see them or likes them. Use a load of naive bands to buy tickets - think of it - there must be hundreds of eager bands!! how will they know you listened to all the demo's? fuck off, you has been old label bollocks!!

Re: Win a record deal with Fierce Panda

Jack I totally agree with your sentiments. This is a cynical and pathetic attempt to encourage people to go and see Medium 21. It is fully playing on the emotions of eager bands wanting a deal. 'no matter what the quality of entries there must be a winner' - what a load of crap, surely this goes against the ethos of any credible label, why release something if its crap 'oh but they came to the medium 21 gig'. Fucking joke, next we will have EMI forcing people to go and see Robbie Williams with the dingle dangle of a deal.

Re: Win a record deal with Fierce Panda

Is there perhaps a 'no purchase necessary' option

Re: Win a record deal with Fierce Panda

I know somebody who was on Fierce Panda and released two singles with them. Both did really well and sold out. Four years later no payment has ever been seen even though a couple of thousand is owed. This might not sound a lot but when you are not a major chart player all money is important just to live. Simon Williams is a rip off bastard shit bag.

Re: Win a record deal with Fierce Panda

hmm, yeah my own band have been shafted by his golden fist...promised money (and more) for a london gig...given nothing, cept for some wankass excuses...hmmm

Re: Win a record deal with Fierce Panda

Then get a fucking lawyer, you fucknut.

Re: Win a record deal with Fierce Panda

While I don't know dick about your mates case, and can't condone any alleged lack of payment, let's face it, you don't release singles on small indie labels as a money making exercise...it's about trying to get exposure (and to demonstrate that you can sell singles with limited press/marketing expenditure) in order to get picked up by a major who WILL pay your wages. I had a couple of releases on Fierce Panda, and it certainly helped my old band in our early career. At least we got some MCPS money! When we released stuff on our own label ( which eventually got us a major deal) we received a big fat zero!... (It's different if you've signed an albums deal with an indie label, obviously, since you're using them as a home, rather than stepping stone to another label)

Re: Win a record deal with Fierce Panda

Simon Williams is a brilliant man and FP are a visionary label.
This new venture does seem a bit pointless but FP are still amazing.

Re: Win a record deal with Fierce Panda

you don't actually make any money from selling singles. unless of course you sell thousands. which even 'sold out' fierce panda releases don't. fierce panda release singles out of a love for music and new bands. and the point of temptation is not only to help bands out in the longer term (ie making albums, so they do make money), but also to help fierce panda's staff make enough money to live too.

Re: Win a record deal with Fierce Panda

"old has been label"?

Have a listen to Battle. And Cablecar. They discovered Interpol.

SIMON PANDA IS STILL WELL ON THE BALL!!!
