A Garbage fan site has reported that the band's label, Warners, has slated a greatest hits compilation for a May 29th release.
Garbage-Discography.co.uk reports that the set could stretch to two CDs. Although singer Shirley manson regularly adds updates to the band's official website, many figured it was all over for the four-piece once they cancelled European dates late last year. The release of a greatest hits, while not exclusively a career death blow, would seem to confirm their imminent official disbanding.
The compilation is to be called Absolute Garbage.

I don't hate them. I just think they've used the same formula since they started and haven't really progressed, burt their last album was still ENJOYABLE... just a bit... obivous. And her lyrics still sound like an angsty 16 year old.
They were blinding
at Brixton Academy last year. But it seemed to be a farewell gig.

Garbage needed a new formula and didn't quite make it, their first album is rather good and their second effort is perfect pop if you like that sort of thing, which i do. Past 2 have been a bit poo with some not bad singles, stand out being Cherry Lips, even if it did sound like some kind of creepy Xmas single.
I saw em at glasto last year and they were fucking wickked.. reckon they're one of the best live bands i've seen, seen em 3 times i think... maybe 4... but when you're playing all your old material you know there's something wrong.

But I laughed when I read it. To my shame I think it may have even been an NME review.
Garbage IS Good
Garbage is a great band in my opinion. I love their first two albums. Their third is okay, but not very good. The problem with that is because that had too many different things going on that record and it sounded too mixed up. Their latest album is better than the third, but it sounds a little too unfullfilling to me. I think they're great songwriters though and they make some of the best stuff out there. They're an incredible live band too. They play a lot of their older stuff live because they've had so many hits, and because it's good. Garbage aren't broken up though. They're on a break after working constantly for 10 years. I don't know about the title "Absolute Garbage." I guess it's better than just calling it "Greatest Hits."
