Here's a scary thought: At christmas time, record stores get a huge amount of people coming in that wouldn't usually (obv buying presents), so they get a larger percentage of the population in there than usual

So when a shit, novelty pile of wank gets to christmas number one, if anything it is actually a far more accurate description of the countries music taste as a whole

Aren't Nizlopi actually a lot more genuinely underground than most of the 'indie' stuff (on majors or subsidised) followed/championed here?

They've been on the grassroots acoustic circuit and even doing house gigs for years, right?

their musicianship, but from the other stuff i've heard it's mostly not as chart-bothering as this.
and as nice an instrument set-up as they have, it's not 'commercial' enough to escape the richard and judy market really.
i don't mean they'll stop being a band because haven't they already had a few albums out? it's pretty obvious they're not writing music for the fame.. and sadly that attitude doesn't go far in the charts.

Well the JCB song is a re-release anyway - it got to a lofty 160 in the charts last time in June.

The video (madebythesameblokeasRadioheadsCreeep) has been going viral around the internet since April and makes the song better due to it's transformers and A-Team references.

And DiS - ANYONE is better than Westlife's songjacking. I swear they just get copies of other peoples songs, then sing extra vocals over the top and sell them to the Thick People who actually vote for reality TV shows. Originality does not equal genius (incidentally I think my phrase in my post "I quite like the JCB song" probably proves I don't think the song is genius but anyway...) and neither does something being independent make it good.

Firstly I don't think there's anything cynical in it. In fact I'd say the opposite is true and the thing that attracts or repels people is the naivety of the song.

As I say I'm not claiming this song to be the greatest work of genius since Leonardo Da Vinci invented the helicopter but I think some of the criticism's a touch harsh.

Anyway to return to a point. I quite like the song. I'm glad it's doing well and I'm glad people are getting pissed off by it because (unless it's me getting pissed off by something) that's always entertaining to see.

But I think Walshing is sliiiiightly more sinister than Cowelling. Cowell has that obvious menacing smugness, whereas Walsh is one of those quiet old men who sit next to you on the bus and try to subtley smell your hair.

Cowell would just go at you with a drill. it'd be over quickly too.

Nizlopi are the best thing since sliced bread. Theyre the most original act around. I heard the JCB song in august / september and i am stil not bored of it. The album is by far my favourite one of the year.. and they should beat westlife / any crap indie act any day. Theyre not indie. If westlife get to number one, we'll know theyve gone out and bort their own singles again haha .

just take a look at all these comments here i think you'll find the majority of them are in support of nizlopi.
and anyway who cares if the jcb song is good or not if it keeps westlife from getting to number 1.

I actually like the song! I first saw them on Richard and Judy one night, and they explained the story behind it and the lyrics are genuine. If you just listen to the words and maybe even let go of your 'Im too cool to like it...' ego's for a few minutes and properly listen to it, you might like it too. Now lets be honest, if your rooting for Westlife's typical 'stand up with a key change ballad' to get to number one then that says more (or less as it may seem) about you. Fortunatly, you can say whatever you want bout Nizlopi, but theyre still outselling Westlife by 11,000 singles, so they're doing something right wether you agree with it or not

Exactly which orifice are you talking out of, here? It's Christmas number one we're talking about, not the Nobel Bleeding Peace Prize. I'm not the biggest fan of chart music, myself (Okay, that's an understatement) but any idiot knows what to expect at Christmas by now. Personally I think out of all the contendors JCB Song SHOULD get it. It's the only thing that sounds like it hasn't been done a hundred times over and hey - it deserves it for the video alone.

I may not agree with Mike Diver's view on the song but I do think "cuntish" IS a fantastic word and hope it'll be in the dictionary by the end of next year.

Could do with a couple more obscure letters in it though. Just so it's worth more at Scrabble...

I first heard of Nizlopi on myspace. I don't have the opportunity to hear it on the radio considering it has not made it to The States yet. I find their music charming, and very well written. I spent 8 weeks in The UK this past summer performing myself. Your music scene is much better than the shit they are passing off as music here.Which is why i stay pretty much indie. I think the singer/songwriter era is back. The more wholesome style of acoustic music is making a triumphant return! I wish nothing but the best for Nizlopi, and much continued success. The reviewer of this song needs to focus on the art, passion, and the sheer talent these guys posess. Try listening again, if that doesn't work then listen again.

A Cover song is the record of the year. Is that because it took Westlife such a long time to write, no, seeing as it is a cover. Nizlopi have written a particularly musical song, with REAL issues concerning bullying and is a record that strikes a real chord with alot of people. Making harsh reviews of a BAND (that ACTUALLY makes MUSIC) isnt exactly the way forward in enhancing the music scene of Britain. A talented duo that have gigged like fuck and have obviously put alot into their music, and also calling DJ's who actually play some REAL music on their stations "Cuntish" is just pointless, unnessecary and without any conviction. So lets face it, for once lets have an original for number one at Christmas as for the last four years, 3 of those songs that have got the Christmas Number 1 spot have been covers. What a joke. And we all then wonder why so many people are so narrow minded when it comes to music, and why so many people couldnt appreciate a good song if it slapped them around the face. Frankly, Westlife's attempt at a comeback using a cover is somewhat pathetic, anyone with a vaguely high profile can cover a song and make a whole BOAT load of money off it, and SURELY thats not music?

Great band Great album, saw them in glastonbury this summer my brother bought me the album for xmas last year. Just because this song is popular doesnt mean they deserve to be slated. This band are musical original and dedicated to their work. My band Alex Nate were due to play with Nizlopi last night at bath place Leamington Spa, but they pulled out of the charity gig at the last moment, over 250+ people payed £7 for the gig (proceeds to go to a small african community to help build a farm)and Nizlopi never turned up...oh well i guess their either too important and busy to bother with petty charity gig's or were afraid my band would wipe the floor with 'em

that the song "Don't forget your shovel" quoted in the first verse of the JCB song was written by 60 year old Irish songwriter Christie Hennessy (and later taken to no. 1 by Christy Moore). Christie Hennessy is due to release a new album in March on the MVine label. Any bets now on which song on the new album will be quoted in a future no. !?

I recently spoke to the guitarist in my band who had been surfing the net, and he sent me a link to this site where you seem to be givin our band some shit. "ALLOW ME TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT" 1st: A lad who set up a myspace web site about our band (John) caused some shit, so I had to get the password etc.. for the site off him, I then had to wipe alot of bullshit off the site and give the twat a dig! 2nd: He was at the soundcheck but fucked off before we (the band) decided to blank it, the soundbloke "WAS" a twat and didn't know his arse from his elbow, the other bands we saw were'nt great at all, but besides that, this add was not posted by myself or any member of my band, so if you are a local band and wanna straighten this hole shit out, i'll gladly oblige, I happen to think NIZLOPI are a sound bunch of guys, its just a shame that there's alot of arseholes out there. last but not least don't come the cunt with me mate, I aint into music for all this shite, if your in "Souler rythm" or the "sound guy" or whoever the fuck you are, don't hide behind names chap, I'll keep a keen eye out for who YOU are, so either sort your shit out or shut the fuck up or i'll give you a fuckin slap, I don't give a fuck who you are you prick!!!!!
