EM' lose the Idlewild of their I

Scottish rockers Idlewild have parted company with Parlophone/EMI after many a year's hand-in-hand work with the label.

The band's official website carries news that reads as follows:

"Idlewild would like to announce that after eight years and four albums they have parted company with their label Parlophone/EMI. The band had fulfilled their record contract and it seemed like a good time to move on.

“More news regarding a new label and a new record will follow. Here's to the future!”

a polite way of saying

they've been dropped - maybe if Robbie Williams had sold a few more copies of Escapology then they'd have taken up an option on the next album

can't believe they lasted so long - I had em up there with Symposium but then again I am 87 or something and can 'remember' the 90s

i'd guess

that being signed to Food, which was then bought up for the sake of Blur, isn't the best way to be signed to a label... am only assuming.

hardly a surprise

I'm not sure any of their albums sold enough copies not to lose money.
And they were nobodies outside the UK.

Well I...

...continue to like them.
Sean, can DiS sign them, please?

Oh well

About time really. Their last album wast utter shite. It was well produced, had a good sound, but I just thought the songs were boring. Everything from Chandelier to The Remote Part is brilliant. Bob must have done more than I thought. Theory of Acheivement is still wicked though!

Surprised?

Err, not me. It was coming after the shambles that was Warnings/Promises.

They should be signed by...

...Domino, who are a good label that sign bands for the right reasons. Besides which, if I'm not mistaken isn't he now married to the singer of a Domino band? He's gotten married anyway, so if he was still seeing the same person then he is.

Idlewild/DiS

I smell a new DiS signing...
Sean, sort it out innit.

rumours

This was a rumour a while back...along with TCTC

oh

being dropped that is...not being signed up by DiS

fucking hell

'quiet' does not equal 'boring'.

not their best but 'shite' is going far too far.

I think that...

Love Steals Us From Loneliness is one of the best things they've done. And I liked the loud stuff.

tis true

and I just read the DiS review of W/P from ages ago and it seems to suggest that 'I Want A Warning' is good, or something.

It's just embarrassing proof that Idlewild were right to go in the direction they have... and it's lucky that it is only a minor variation from the rest of the album.

Erm

Does anyone say that 'quiet' does equal 'boring'?
I think W/P IS their worst effort, but their best was Remote Part by a fair distance. And that's not as loud as earlier stuff. So quit jumping to conclusions.

well

said !

True

Quiet does not equal shite, you're right. Warnings/Promises is shite though, because the songs are rubbish, not because they aren't as energetic as they were, but they just aren't as good as they were. Remote Part is a good album and it's not half as energetic as Captain or Hope is Important. My favourite may even be Live In A Hiding Place and that's a slowey - so there!

Warnings/Promises

Was a really good album. Infact, they're constantly good even, I listened to Remote Part and fell for it all over again. I'm surprised that they weren't more successful commercially, but hey, I guess that's how it goes.

O

k :-)

100 broken windows

is still and will probably forever be my favourite. it seems i'm in a minority there.

no

I think it's my favourite too, just before the remote part.

roddy is married to...

He's married to the bass player of Sons & Daughters. She's v.pretty!

it's my fave too

I love 100 broken windows, its on my top albums of all time I reckon. All their other stuff was great, although The Remote Part was equal parts inspired and boring. W/P was ace though.

gone

are the days starting a 3 man mosh when they supported coldplay, to the bewilderment of several lovey couples in the front row, ha ha. w/p was a pile of poo, i think whoever said remote part was the best is right, they are a great band, but unfortunately peaked around 99 for me. its time for a womble solo project, hang on.. no.
shame tho, shame

Guess what?

100 Broken Windows is my favourite too. Their albums since then have been a huge disappointment for me, almost as if Idlewild from Captain up to 100 Broken Windows, and then the Idlewild from then onwards are two different bands.

hope is important

is one of the great flawed pop albums of the last ten years.

D'you know what's lame?

Going to an Idlewild gig for Warnings/Promises and seeing lots of little children doing the rock hand thing at songs which don't really rock.

...thinking about it it's always lame to do the rock hand thing. But doing it to W/P is lame aaand misguided.

PS I'm not saying I don't like W/P. But it's not as good as their older stuff and it doesn't rock.

Rock has stopped looking like a word now...

I thought W/P was really good....

But I'm not shocked that they've been dropped. None of their albums have been big sellers. The Remote Part sold ok.

That rock hand does my head in as well.
What freaked me out was when I saw them in March and during 'I want a Warning', I looked to my left and there was this women who was about 55 gyrating and swivelling her hips and that, really getting down. Surely that is wrong?!
