Gabriel talks up Genesis reformation

Former Genesis singer turned Sledgehammer-rocking clay man turned oddball beardy in a giant bubble Peter Gabriel has told Rolling Stone that there's a real possibility of the old Genesis line-up getting back together.
YES! That means getting Phil Buster Collins behind the drums and, um, those other fellas on guitars. And things. Like that one from Mike and the Mechanics... you know... Mike? 'The Living Years'?
Anyway...
"The odds are better now than before, we're going to have the conversation," said Gabriel (pictured). Gabriel left the band in 1975, following their tour for The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. His first, self-titled solo album contained the song 'Solsbury Hill', apparently about his strained relationship with his former band mates. He returned briefly for a reunion show in 1982.
News continues after a word from our sponsors...
Guitarist Steve Hackett, who left in 1977, has stated that he's spoken with the band's management about a reformation, and Collins has made his interest public. Gabriel, though, is counting no chickens just yet:
I wouldn't put money on it, yet. When we got back together in 1982, I don't think we rehearsed. To really do it properly, we'd have to take more time. It's quite a commitment."

The Futureheads' favourite five gigs of 2008
Vaguely intrigued...
...if only because I like the man Gabriel - I've even met him once, albeit briefly, when I was in Real World Studios for something...
I doubt I'd go to a show but if I did, they would have to promise that Phil Collins would not step out from behind the drum kit at any point.
Bring back phil!
Bring back phil!
Bring back phil!
Bring back phil!
Bring back phil!
?
What's wrong with Phil Collins?
He IS back!
Didn't you see him in the Vic last night?
ProgRock
If those prog rock band could write something progressive (even if it was progressive to their ears only) that could be good news.
But if the reason is low selling figures and/or the third cottage to build and/or the third wife to send checks to, this will lead to what I'd call "Asia Syndrome" or WMSE: worthless money spent ever.
Phil Collins
btw the man had some serious disease to one of his ears.
heh
shame it wasn't to his heart or testicles...I wanna see him dead or steralized.
now THIS...
... is the best piece of news on DiS for ages.
and Phil SHOULD be allowed out from behind the kit, but only if he promises to go straight back behind it the minute he's finsihed singing 'More Fool Me'
Dear God ...
Please make sure Genesis NEVER reform.
Julia
rather than...
pleading to a potentially fictional deity, you could always just not go see them if they do reform.
that way, it won't intrude on your world in the slightest, but those people who are interested don't have to go without purely because you have some problem with it.
i won't stand in their way
as long as they play "i can't dance" and do that funny walk
The bit
about Phil Collins in both the book and the film of American Psycho make me glad that Phil Collins' music ever existed. But nothing else.
...having said that 'I Wish It Would Rain down' is a guilty pleasure.
But
I love the Lion King soundtrack!!!11!!!111!!!
Selling England by the Pound
is a classic. And Foxtrot. And quite a few of their albums come to think of it. Genesis didn't really change too much when Gabriel left - it was Steve Hackett's departure that made them a worse group.
Well....
Being too young then, I watched a bootleg DVD of Genesis live concerts around '72 to '74.
I thought that Tony Banks was the man in charge of the band from the heights of his musical knowledge, but with my surprise he (he played Firth of Fifth veeery bad), Hackett and Rutherford playing was very under ther par (they were some beats away from the right one) and the so hated Collins was the one who tried to keep them together. Gabriel singing wass always brilliant, b
