With their new 38-song National Treasures box set out on Oct 31st, the Manic Street Preachers have made some special videos talking about some select tracks on the record, and they've also given us a box set to giveaway.
Here's James, Sean and Nicky discussing 'If You Tolerate This', 'The Everlasting' and 'You Stole The Sun From My Heart'.
For any of you wondering what National Treasures is, it's a complete collection of all of their singles, plus their cover of The The's 'This Is The Day' (out as a single on 7th November). The Manics will play all-of-their-singles at a very special one-off Christmas show at the O2 in London on Saturday 17th December 2011.
The National Treasures album will be released via iTunes and iTunes LP on 31st October, as well as, as a double CD, a 2 x CD + DVD set featuring all 38 videos and some bonus video content and an amazing box set with 38 x vinyl finish CD Singles, a poster, a DVD of all the videos, 7" vinyl of New Art Riot, Suicide Alley, Jackie Collins Existential Question Time, Manics lipstick and vanity mirror and a limited number will also contain a 7" of Motown Junk. All the singles have been re-mastered.

Statements of intent don't get much clearer or much better. Was also the first Richey-era Manics song I ever heard, having got into them with Everything Must Go.
Favourite single
My fav is If you tolerate this... Because at the time it was released my country suffered from a lott of violance at clubs en city centers. This song gave a lott of the dutch a boost to fight the useless voilance and gave a voice to say we didnt tolerate it anymore. And still it gives me strenght while raising up my 2,5 y.o. son. Fun part is that my son really loves A desing for life.

I know they hate it but the obscure political references and military outfits captures them at their unique best.
Greatest Manics single
'If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next' is *just* their best, for me, as boring an answer as it is. There are some other strong contenders but on 'Tolerate' they get everything right. The first half of the song is great, but it's the second half that makes this song so special. From the beautiful guitar solo to James' finest ever vocals on the outro, the song gets about as close to perfection as it's possible to get.
Favourite Manics single
Motorcycle Emptiness. Marvellous early song. Other songs are just as good but this is a reminder of a well loved band who have stood the test of time.
In a way my favourite single is "If You Tolerate This..."
I don't think it's their best song by a long stretch but I still remember the utter excitement I felt at the prospect of a new Manics single at the time and being out with my parents knowing it'd be debuted on Radio 1 and scrambling for a frequency I could hear it on. Great though Youtube etc. are there was something exciting knowing this exact time was the only time you could hear the single first played and, back in the days I listened to the charts yearning for the bands I liked to do well, I remember how delighted I was when it was a number one hit too.

never heard them until it came out, remember seeing the video on MTV late one night. the images and the crashing dynamics totally hooked me and I was right little FMF for about seven years.

What other lyricst could get away with a line so ambitious as this: 'I am stronger than Mensa, miller and mailer,
I spat out Plath and Pinter'. Just genius, pure and simple.
