Today, Tori Amos releases her new record and DiS has it below for you to stream, in full. Not only that but we've also got a little competition for you, with a different prize everyday this week.
Night of Hunters is Tori Amos' twelfth studio album. It's a whirling voyage through a land of pianos and delicate strings topped with that haunting voice that could be no-one else (although Joanna Newsom, Patrick Wolf and many other DiS favourites do try their damnedest to exorcize their inner Tori). Interestingly, it's Tori's first release via the seminal classical label, Deutsche Grammophon. Which makes sense when you read how she describes the concept behind the new record:
"It's a 21st century song cycle inspired by classical music themes spanning over 400 years. I have used the structure of a song cycle to tell an ongoing, modern story. The protagonist is a woman who finds herself in the dying embers of a relationship. In the course of one night she goes through an initiation of sorts that leads her to reinvent herself allowing the listener to follow her on a journey to explore complex musical and emotional subject matter. One of the main themes explored on this album is the hunter and the hunted and how both exist within us.”

I have enjoyed Tori's albums, everyone of them. We share a commonality...sexual abuse has touched my family. As I speak out for my daughter, and myself, he is still getting away with it. I found her Pandora's Project and I take the information and use it. Thank you Tori, you gave a voice to those too afraid, embarrassed, rejected, and emotionally, spiritually, physically healing.

My favourite Tori Amos video is: 1000 Oceans...it's simple, yet evocative.

I would ask Tori why she chose her daughter to sing on this album?
She has such a lovely voice, but I would imagine that the reason is much deeper than that.

Why did you choose to have the male figure in the story speak through instrumentation instead of having a male singer on the record embodying the "He" in the story?

'Scarlet's Walk' detailed a cross-country journey through post-9/11 America, whereas you describe 'Night of Hunters' as a "21st century song cycle inspired by classical music themes spanning over 400 years". What similarities can be found between these two journeys?

Tori, how did recording with your daughter affect the bond between you two? I can't even imagine how powerful and exhilarating the experience was for the both of you. On a side note, hearing the two of you sing, reminds me of the song Ribbons Undone.
