Atlas Sound tracks taken off Blogger by Sony

A slight surprise this one, but all the more annoying for it. Last week we posted not one but two articles telling you about newly written and record Atlas Sound tracks, which were mostly constructed in Bradford Cox's bedroom - hence the name Bedroom Databank.

Anyway, the bad news is that these files have been taken down from Media Fire and, subsequently from Blogger, at the request of Sony. Which is absolutely fucking outrageous. Bradford does the explaining in this blog entry.

"Your Files Have Been Deleted"

Apparently Sony Music Owns my bedroom. Feel free to call or email and let them know what you think. I can understand them requesting for me to remove a cover but the only one I can imagine that happening with is Dylan. Which was on Vol. 1. Which was not deleted. I am re-uploading the files now. I'll put new links in the posts.

The reason stated in the message was anti-piracy and "unauthorized reproduction and distribution of copyrighted sound recordings owned or exclusively". It's enough to make you cry. ANTI PIRACY MY ARSE! This is an absolute disgrace! Say it with me! YOU FUCKS!

Is he under contract to Sony?

If so, it makes sense they'd have a problem with him releasing new music for free (presumably) without consulting them.

to the best of my knowledge, he's on 4AD. haven't seen anything to the contrary (and kind of couldn't imagine him signing to a major). perhaps just an overzealous RIAA bot confusing search terms/song titles?

I thought it was the image?

he used a Dylan picture that was copywritten by Sony. I mean, that is what he actualyl says in his blog post. And that's fair enough. Send him an email, ask him to remove it and re-up the zip. That is how publishers reasonably deal with copyright infringmeent. With dialogue, common sense and reason. That anti-piracy message is the standard one Blogger roll out over any post - or entire blog they delete, regardless of whetever infringement may have occured. The real problem is how they do it without warning or discussion. It's such a neanderthal response, the way Blogger just let companies have the upperhand in this. Especially here, when it seems to be only one image out of 4 whole zip files and they take them all down. Pretty arbitrary and ham fisted.

He covered a Dylan song

The folder which contained that track wasn't deleted, so it can't be that.

I think it is just over zealousness on someone's on part. Anyhow, Brad reupped all the files so you can still grab them.

that makes more sense

yez.

Yay for copyright!

Honestly, bin the heap of shit.

:)

Whilst I know Blogger have very dirty hands over this matter

This wouldn't have been anything to do with them, as the zip files were hosted by mediafire.

Yeah, I didn't meant to imply that but it perhaps did.

I meant more taken from Blogger (the playform) by Sony than taken down BY Blogger, although as you say it's Media Fire.

I think Guntrip meant that for me?

I got carried away venting my pet peeve about Blogger when I shouldn't have. It was just Sony and Mediafire involved, nothing about blogspot hosting the links.

I did a bit rubbish here.

Dear Mr. cowcow,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Bradford Cox titles. The Bradford Cox tracks were mistakenly removed. We advised Mediafire that the titles were mistakenly taken down. We have communicated all of this to Bradford Cox and his manager. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Regards,
Dong Jang
