When iconic bands get back together after a number of years, there's always going to be questions about new material, be it in the form of a song, album, EP, or even just new songs played live. It happens to Pixies ALL THE TIME, but thankfully we've only been treated to the middling 'Bam Thwok' some years ago.
Obviously the soon-to-be-reunited indie rock legends Pavement aren't above this sort of talk either. Yet, it seems that any fans wishing for new material from the five-piece will be 'sorely' disappointed.
In an interview with The Quietus, Bob Nastanovich said there would be no freshly-penned musical pieces from the band.
Will you do new material?
BN: No.
Is this a once and once only kind of deal?
BN: I'm pretty sure that's the case.
So there you have it, from the horse's mouth which, coincidentally, The Quietus also asks him about. Bobbo says that he just watched a horse he owns a piece of, Exotic Indy, break down in a race at Belmont Park, New York. Shame.
Seems like this isn't going to be a regular thing, either, something which should make the reformation shows that little bit more special for those involved.
These pages have been awash with Pavement news over the past couple of weeks, as the band were first rumoured to reform before it becoming official, then announcing UK shows and finally (perhaps not...) being confirmed as curating the second May 2010 ATP weekend. There'll be more, we're sure.
