Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. Oh my god, oh your god, oh his god, oh her god.
Legendary and soon-to-reunite indie-rockers Pavement are to curate May 2010's All Tomorrow's Parties Festival in a move that is, in no other words, an indieverse wet dream coming to life. And some people said ATP had become predictable! Fools!
Yeah, so The Malk, Stairs, Ibold, Nastanovich, and West will pick a decent chunk of the bands to play the weekend as well as playing themselves, naturally. This is quite big news in that, not only will it lead to possibly a few weak knees across the nation, but that it moves forward the COUNTDOWN TO PAVEMENT clock that is currently in motion. Their first show proper was to be in NYC in September next year - this, obviously, sees it move forward a few months, leaving us just SEVEN months to lift-off.
The festival takes place at Butlins, Minehead from May 14-16 2010. Tickets are priced at £160pp for room only and £170pp for self-catering, and are on sale Friday October 9 (this Friday) on ATP's official website, where more information can also be found.
There's the usual deal with Early Beard tickets being available for all up to a certain point, which we believe will be a week after tickets go on general sale. There's also the recession/unemployed-friendly instalment option.
The second May 2010 weekend (ironically the preceding week to this one) will feature a different curator and will be announced next week. Go and have a lie down before then, though.
DiScuss: BEST NEWS EVER? I was hoping for Scratch Acid, myself. Underwhelmed? Who will they get in? Who cares?!.

quite early to start selling tickets, innit? Though it will probably sell out in seconds. ATPers love Pavement.
it's the same time as we announce the may ones
every year x
kind of annoyed that only pavement have been annouced
like i know everyone in the universe has collectively ejaculated but its still £160, so yeah.
Perfect
to break my ATP cherry
it's fantastic news
but, come on, who didn't see this coming a mile off?
Beautiful motherfucking news.
If i don't get my chalet on Friday I will take to the belltower with my rifle.
another ATP to get a ticket for??
jeez, this getting silly now! But got MBV ATP coming up that has the sickest line up ever. I'm sure Pavement one will be great too, but theyll be playing regular london dates, may have to leave it at that. Am intrigued by who theyll pick tho..Damon Albarn?! Heh
"so The Malk, Stairs, Nastanovich, and West will pick a decent chunk of the bands to play the weekend"
How come Mark Ibold doesn't get a say? He must be pretty bummed...
Seriously though, this is great news.
fair play,
my bad.
Oh
Good Lord!

I'll probably get shot down for saying this, but does anyone else find it weird how people are going on about this Pavement reformation? When they split I don't remember a huge outpouring of grief. I'm a fan, and find it odd what big news it's become. A good example are people who work with, who asked me if Pavement were any good (i.e. they'd never heard them) about 3 weeks ago, and are now "desperate to go to ATP". I genuinely don't understand the mentality that goes on. Is is that everyone wants something to get excited about, regardless of whether it means anything to them or not? Has anyone else noticed this?
You aren't the only one
It wasn't exactly hard to get tickets to see them during the 90s - I think there were still tickets for that last ever show at Brixton on the night. They were very hit and miss live...too often the latter when I saw them. I'm sure they'll pick a great bill and the weekend will be briliant fun...but yeah when they split up I don't remember anyone caring.
..
It does get me down a bit really, because it's the sort of thing that makes me wonder whether anyone really cares about music at all. It akes me think it's all just hype, image and trying to be seen as 'cool' by those around you. Interesting that you mention their last gig wasn't evn sold out. I bet if they played Brixton now they'd sell out a few nights, packed with chattering people. I never saw them in the 90s and despite being a fan, have no real desire to see them this time.
