Mumford & Sons answer YOUR questions!

Remember that Mastodon Q & A thingamy we did the other month, where we offered you lot the chance to have your questions answered by the band. Good.

Well, we're doing the same with the up-and-coming London folksters Mumford & Sons who have a new album out at the beginning of October entitled Sigh No More.

So, if you've got a question to ask Marcus Mumford and co. you'd better get to it and post your question in the comments section below. If you happen to ask a particularly good question then there's a very good chance the band will answer it. The answers will be filmed and posted up in video format. It's all quite simple, really.

In the meantime (whilst thinking) you can watch the video of their latest single, 'Little Lion Man'. Enjoy.

Get yer thinking caps on lads and lasses!

Could they

possibly be asked if they like nandos please? It is needed for a spreadsheet of bands that like nandos.

Dancing, etc

I seem to remember Country Winston performing quite an unusual dance whilst playing his banjo at a few of your gigs last year - a rhythmic pelvic thrust, if my memory serves. What's the story there? !

question from kiK...

why are you shit?

some questions

1. how did you meet each other?
2. what are your influences?
3. is the roll away your stone guitar part tuned to DADF#AD?
4. please can you describe your song writing process

Q&A

1. What is your fav song to play live? & why?
2. What is your fav song off of the upcoming album? & why?
3. I have heard that you are going to be touring the US. Where are you most looking forward to playing?
4. Where do you find inspiration for song/lyric writing?
5. Do you offer the story behind songs to fans or do you prefer to let them interpret the songs in their own way?

So...

What's happened to Feel The Tide Turning?
If you could tour one country in the world out of choice, what would it be?
Is banjo the new black?

Questions

Bouncing between the serious and the absurd:

1. Any plans for a full fledged US tour in the near future? (I flew to the UK to see you guys play in a field...the least you could do is pop on over here to see ME)

2. If underappreciated instruments could battle to the death...who would win: The mandolin, the trumpet, the accordion or the banjo? (Personal biases aside, please...Winston...)

3. What are your personal favorite tracks on the new album and why?

4. Beans on toast (the food, not the man): yay or nay?

5. If you could tour with any band or singer, who would it be?

6. Why are you so awesome? No...seriously...why?

7. Favorite gig you've played in recent memory? Why was it so special?

8. The eternal question: Pirates or ninjas?

Questions questions questions...

Ooook well
- How often (if ever) do you guys argue with each other? And if you do, what's the stupidest thing you've ever argued about?
- If you could live in any country, where would you live?
- What's your favourite food/meal? (after all, the way to a man's heart is through his stomach right?)

By the way, please choose some of redcoloredstars' questions, they're really good!!
Also...you guys are awesome (but you knew that already) and I love your music (you perhaps didn't know that) x

These last four/ five questions are all bullshit

"Why are you so awesome? No...seriously...why?" - what a joke.

Is it any coincidence that the last four 'users' all signed up in the last two days with the sole intention of posting these arse-lick questions? Any money DiS posted these themselves, to save the embarrassment of turning up to an interview with just four 'fan' questions - two of which are 'do you like Nandos' and 'why are you so shit'?

It's a whitewash. An inside job. Mumfordgate!

I can't wait for the interview to actually appear so we can all find out the answers to all those burning questions like, how do you know each other! Or which country they would live in if they could live in any country! Or why you are so awesome! SERIOUSLY.

Inside job?

...um, sure. Ha.

I legitimately a huge fan of the band...but was just trying to be a little lighthearted with the questions. What would you have me ask? What are your thoughts on UK foreign policy? Do you have any solutions to stop the melting of the ice caps?

Questions

1. Will you be touring North America upon the release of your debut album?
2. What are you listening to at the moment and what are your early influences?
3. I have heard you all write songs for the band, how do you each come about the writing process?
4. Marcus, there are rumors you are dating Laura Marling, is this true?
5. Did any of you go to University, and if so what did you take?
6. What is something you have learned thus far in your career that you wish you had known, and you would like to share with aspiring musicians?

There seems to be a really great scene emerging just now with you guys, Laura Marling, Jay Jay Pistolet, Pete Roe, Cherbourg and the various others. I'm a big fan of the old open mic night forum. With the recent Laura Marling and friends gig in mind. Do you lot ever get together for a jar and a sing song just for the hell of it? And if so where and when would such an evening be likely to take place?

Rights??

Surely people have the right to put forward questions to a band which they enjoy listening to (yes, Mumford & Sons have many genuine fans, even if you are not one of them) without having to worry about them being criticised? What's wrong with asking a few questions outside the realm of utter seriousness? Lighten up.

Q!

I'm pretty sure it's Marcus that does the lyrics so if that is the case...

Do you ever find it hard to show the others what you've wrote, or is it something that doesn't really bother you?

Questions

1. If one artist could write the soundtrack to your life, who would it be?
2. Do you enjoy going on tour together... any pranksters in the group?
3. It seems like a lot of your lyrics have strong religious undertones. Is that true/purposeful?

Has this gone? Oh well, what the hell:

1. If you were a sporting moment, which sporting moment would you be and why?
2. If you were a building, which building would you be and why?
3. What do you think the judges on X-Factor would say if you turned up to audition?
4. When was the last time that you were lost?

Marcus,

Which song was it that you had written on tour with Laura supporting Adam Green last year and you performed solo in Oslo with the lyrics in you hand? This has been bugging me for ages and I keep meaning to ask.

If You can't Say Something Nice...

what i find so utterly hard to understand is, if you think that it's all bullshit, why bother even looking at this, let alone commenting??
I'm just wondering if you know how completely ridiculous you've made yourself look? Why post a comment at all? and If you're going to attack other peoples questions because they're such a 'joke' why don't you show us how it's done oh mighty one??
my guess is because you're bitter and synical and dissappointed with you're mediocre life.
stop taking it out on other people.
idiot.

Questions

in the hope that i haven't missed it already-

There seem to be quite a few literary references is some of your songs, particularly from shakespeare in 'roll away your stone' and steinbeck in 'timshel' which comes from my favourite book. i was wondering if you all share the same literary heroes, and who they are?
Also, if you had to pick a song, by any artist, which you wish could have been written for you or about you, what songs would they be?

Questions

(I don't even know if this is still on, but what the hell...)

1. Hope seems to be a very crucial theme in your songs, are you optimistic people?
2. Does hope have a religious aspect for you?
3. your sound has a very intimate side to it, is it difficult to translate it on big stages (e.g. Royal Festival Hall in London)?
4. How much do you, Laura Marling and the rest of the London Folk scene inspire each other?

Question

If Marcus and Laura break up, will the music of Mumford & Sons enter the same dark zone that Noah And The Whale's has on their follow up album? There may be a series of brilliant but incredibly pained post-Marling albums if this continues...

If Marcus and Laura break up, will the music of Mumford & Sons enter the same dark zone that Noah And The Whale's has on their follow up album? There may end up being a series of brilliant but incredibly pained post-Marling albums in a few years time...

There seem to be a lot of religious references in your songs, especially Roll Away Your Stone, WInter Winds and White Blank Page. Is this a product of your influences, or are you/did you use to be religious?

Am I right in saying you started with the drums Marcus? When did you first pick up a guitar and start to write songs you were proud of? Having spoken to you lot a few times outside gigs the consensus seems to be that Marcus leads the songwriting - is this true, and if not how is the process collaborative?

Cheers!

1. Who is the Little Lion Man?
2. What do you think of the DiS user review that said the crowd at your gigs were "rowers and debutantes"? http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music/4198910 Are you trying to reach a particular audience with your music?
