Matthew Herbert to headline British Council anniversary concert

Matthew Herbert, he of weird sound production techniques is to headline a celebration concert for the 75th anniversary of the British Council later this year.

The event, which takes place at The Barbican on October 26, will also feature a Guillemots collaboration with Arthur Jeffes of Music From The Penguin Cafe.

In addition to that, the night will also see Scottish singer Karine Polwart link up with the Jordanian singer Ruba Saqr. Justin Adams, who will perhaps be best known to you as a producer of Tinariwen, will also feature in a project with details to be confirmed.

The second half of the night will feature Matthew Herbert's Big Band as well as the community choir with Eska Mtungwazi in a specially-created performance.

Doors open at the Barbican 7.30PM with tickets being available from the official website or on 0207 638 8891. Prices are from £10 - £20 plus booking fee.

The British Council specialises in international education and cultural opportunities with its former chair being Lord Kinnock also known as Neil, the man who once fell over on the beach.
