It was always on the cards, really, wasn't it? Rufus Wainwright (he of Judy Garland-impersonating and 'Hallelujah'-covering fame) is to stage his first opera at next summer's Manchester International Festival.
Titled Prima Donna (self-referential title alert?), it's due run on July 10, 12, 14, 17 and 19. Point your browser at MIF.co.uk for more information.

rufus is great
apparently it's based around the life of Maria Callas?
it's strange
that it is not based around the life of Rufus Wainwright
Want One was amazing, but he hasn't done anything of real merit since
Shame that, as he's a decent songwriter.
