Dirty pretty split: Barât's boys bow out
Dirty Pretty Things are no more according to NME.com. The four-piece (Carl Barât, Didz Hammond Gary Powell and Anthony Rossomando in case you've been avoiding them) have apparently decided to call time on the band after three years making music that wasn't anywhere near as good as The Libertines. And they weren't even that great.
Talking of The Libs, Barât has already spoken about the potential for them to reform in the wake of DPT's split. Here's what he had to say about the decision:
"It is with some sadness we announce the farewell of the Dirty Pretty Things. It's been a glorious three years which we all would gladly live out again, but it is time for us to try new things (not The Libertines)"
DiScuss: do you think The Libertines could be back on, despite Barât's comments? Or will Didz reform The Cooper Temple Clause instead? That'd be better.

'the libertines
weren't even that great'? fuck off! they were better than that crowd that won the fucking pluto prize
Really?
Future Of The Left - amongst others - piss all over them from a great height to these ears.
I did like the libertines at the time
But I think it was more of a growing into music sort of thing, they were pretty much a rip off of the jam. Still, the jam weren't a bad band to try and emulate by any means so they're alright by me.
they were pretty crap
actually no, really crap
The headline "Dirty Splitty Things" was staring you in the face
and you missed it.
(possibly deliberately)
Missed it, actually
I think you win
The Libertines
had one really good song (Don't Look Back Into the Sun), I never really understood the fuss about the rest of it.
I suppose this will be the last we
hear of them until they are inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame then.
Remarkably average
I was shocked to discover how shockingly average the two Dirty Pretty Things albums were. I remember on my forth boring listen through Waterloo thinking "is this really it?" The reason the things are splitting is because their last album sold fuck all. If they weren't at the bottom of the charts I guarantee they wouldn't be going anywhere. Maybe the label dropped them.
the first libertines
album is fun, but that barat fella just has nothing to him really. As for the cooper temple clause I completely forgot about them, i used to like them when i was younger, they were ace live. Might have to see if i've still got a copy although i could imagine it being a let down? Some things are better remembered than resurrected.
Will Didz reform TCTC?!
Will he fuck, but it'd be chuffing marvellous if he did.
wow
3 years too late
Oops.
wrong place.
dirty pretty things
seemed quite exciting when they first appeared... i saw them twice.
noone seemed to care about them second time round though.. i've not even heard the singles off the second album.
they were okay, but I cant see anyone missing them that much...
fabulous
that means I have photo's of yet another bands last ever gig.
The libertines
would almost out-wank Razorlight in a competition of who's the biggest bunch of wankers. That is assuming such a contest is feasible.
i quite liked
"wondering"
or was it "wandering"
dunno
yesss!yesss!
yyyyeeeeeaaaahhhhhhh!in your face unlovable dickensien urchin tossbags!ha!
gah
"oh nobody likes us anymore...."
Calls for TCTC reforming start now. With Didz. And with 2002 production. Lets do things properly.
Definitley would be
Didz has gone to hell in DPT. He plays crap basslines, and he grew horrible man tits. And still wore horrible skinny tee things.
I want TCTC back!
The Libertines were great...ok, not great-great, but really good
Babyshambles/DPT at the very least above average...and rock stars should fuck supermodels and spit into cameras. It's in the job description.
Dream on
Didz is a daddy. I think his music career may be over.
I agree with this
Literally the only decent song they ever wrote.
'Literally'
Fern Cotton
..
Their last album was disgustingly poor. My mate liked them, so bought it. We got halfway through it before he ripped it off the stereo saying 'this is dreadful. What a waste of a tenner'. I agreed totally. It was actually shocking how poor it was.
They're
still going on with the tour that's about to start, the last gig is in Paris at the end of november...
Part of me
would love to see TCTC reform but only if they hit the same standard as 'See This Through…' and that ain't going to happen so lets let sleeping dogs lie eh.
time for heroes?
anyone?
OOOOOH what did you expect?
when none of your songs had anything interesting about them.
i was never really a libs fan but i actually liked some Babyshambles songs. DPT, however, were just so dull!
Libertines?
Don't make me laugh. I was 22 when the Libertines came out, they taught me nothing. I just opened up the NME one day (mistake number one) and thought "who's this bloke who looks like Danny Goffey but with a fatter face and more ill looking". Libs were about as innovative as a raspberry jam sandwich as opposed to a strawberry jam sandwich.
Still, I'm utterly bewildered as to how a band like them inspired such adoration and devotion from their fans. Wish I had that.
urgh
you put your apostrophes in all the wrong places there. Urgh.
time for heroes was a good song
but they were so overrated it hurts my brain
oh and
DPT was so bad it hurts my brain also
I thought
a better title for this article would have been 'Dirty Splitty Things'
Yes, I won't ever do any bad puns ever again
Maybe
But, really, it's all about the alliteration.
This band was maybe the most obvious, boring,
artistically bereft indie cash cow of this millennium.
