Idle-wild? Not Roddy: second 'solo' project announced

Roddy Woomble, singer with once-good-but-not-anymore Scottish guitar-slingers Idlewild, has announced details of his second release outside of the band. It's a collaboration with friends Kris Drever and John McCusker, and also features guest appearances from - deep breath - Norman Blake and Francis MacDonald (Teenage Fanclub), Phil Selway (Radiohead), Heidi Talbot, Donald Shaw (Capercaille), Andy Cutting and Michael McGoldrick.

Woomble had this to say about Before The Ruin, which is released next Monday, September 15:

"Kris and John each have such a different take on things like melody and lyrics, but we're all working equally on the songs together, so the whole thing feels totally new. And it's great getting to make another 'first' album at our age"

Here's a tracklisting:

'Silver And Gold'
'Into The Blue'
'All Along The Way'
'Before The Ruin'
'Hope To See'
'Rest On The Rest'
'Out Of Light'
'The Poorest Company'
'Moments Last Forever'
'Stuck In Time'

pft

should I rise

to the 'once good but not anymore' comment?

Yes

yes you should

well

its true.. how did it all go so bad and wrong after 100 broken windows?

wrong

high water mark no exceded, i'll give you that, but plenty of good followed.

Hahahaha

I can see your point.

it all went wrong once bob left

As soon as bob fairfoul left the magic of the band seemed to not be there anymore.

same has happened for a number of bands

rolling stones - still selling out tours but most album pretty shit since wyman left

And you will know us by the trail of dead

snow patrol - always quite shite but became statium sized shite when there bass player was replaced

and many more..

Wait...

Bob was in Trail of Dead?

they're still utterly brilliant

anyone thats seen their recent b-sides and rarities shows will confirm this.

seeing them in edinburgh on saturday for the 5925695645th time. still as excited as a kid at christmas for it.

^^ this

Warnings/Promises still stands up as well.

agreed

i'll be there too. first night in a brand new venue as well. can anyone confirm that it's the old revolution nightclub?

Idlewild are still great

Just not as great as they once were.

I know I'd rather listen to Make Another World than most of the dross out there.

I quite liked Roddy's solo album though. So I'm interested in this.

Yep

It's the old Revolution building. Hopefully no teething problmes with it being the first night.

one or two tracks,

but its clearly where it all went to shit..

tut tut

idlewild returned to form on their last album.

kris drever

is absolutely fantastic... for me, this album is all about him.

roddy isn't the fantastic lyricist or folk musician he perceives himself as. i love pretty much everything idlewild have recorded, but roddy really does seem to think he's a lot better than he actually is.

Can't wait

for this album, it's one of my most anticipated albums of the year.

Both Roddy and Drever's solo albums were astounding - having them both together. Ooft.

This news is a bit late though, the album is out on Monday and was announced, like, late last year.
