dEUS in the UK this October
- Artists:
- dEUS »
The finest Belgian band of all time, and arguably one of the greatest odd-indie-pop bands ever, dEUS, have confirmed three new UK dates.
Few bands get DiS as giddy as dEUS. They're a band who are as awkward as they are incredibly fun to try and pin down. You could say they're like Prince fronting The Pixies, or like space-goth philosophers scrawling devil horns and mustaches on the finest euro-pop record sleeves. They're one of those bands who not only get referenced as a major influence by the bulk of our favourite bands, but also come up on our boards, time and time again, as a band everyone must check out.
If you don't know who they iz, here's a quick introduction:
'Suds & Soda' by dEUS
'Little Arithmetic' by dEUS
'The Architect' by dEUS
The dates are:
October 2008
13 Dublin, Tripod
14 Manchester Academy3
15 London, Koko
DiScuss: What videos would you have put in an introduction to dEUS? Did you know their latest album features guest vocal appearances from Karin Dreijer Andersson from The Knife and Guy Garvey of Elbow?
- Drowned in Thursday: Child? Forever? Eno?

academy 3?
jesus, i saw them in there in 2004! then they went to academy 2 in 05... now back to 3?! jeez, they aren't that bad!
hehe, and as a life long lover of dEUS, i'd suggest the song 'instant street' for a grand introduction to dEUS. it's on possibly my favourite album ever, 'the ideal crash'.
we even named our band after an obscure dEUS b-side. 10 cool points if you know what single it's off... ;-)
This band
should have been massive, so underrated
That would be
Theme From Turnpike!!!!!!!!!
Indeed I will be there, quite possibly the band that have had the most effect on my musical development and obsession with Belgian music...
We released this album www.myspace.com/pawlowskitrouveward and album by the three dEUS guitarist's...
I would go with Via myself

This...
Also check out www.heavenhotel.be Rudy Trouve's record label...
Very true!
The last two albums have been painfully mediocre though :(
Except 'Bad Timing', that's one of the best songs they've ever done.
think i'll watch any way the wind blows
today, by the singer of deus. music by squarepusher, herbie hancock and mingus. i have high hopes.
Instant Street probably should have been up there
but they have so many great songs. New album sounds like it could be great.
Excellent.
I'll be up for Koko.
Ah dEUS
one of my Top 3 bands of all time
And Instant Street should definately be in there ^^
The song from that last video
isn't called 'Vantage Point', it's called 'The Architect' ^^
Vantage Point is the (pretty great) album \o/
never seen em
I like them, and I've never actually owned much of their stuff, and never seen them live, but I feel I owe it to myself to go and see them. Manchester I reckon is where I'll go.
OH FUCK YOU NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
No Scotland dates! fuckfuckfuckfuck!!!
Oh well, off to Brussels in December then.
finest Belgian band of all time?
well.. if there would be no Soulwax, Absynthe Minded and Girls In Hawaii
...
Soulwax are ok, but certainly no where near the emotional quality of dEUS... Girls in Hawaii are pretty good....
but it's all about dEUS and the many great bands that orbit them.... Zita Swoon, The Love Substitutes, Pox, The Rudy Trouve Septet, IH8 Camera, Vive La Fete, Mauro Pawlowski & The Grooms, (Evil Superstars, Gore Slut, Kiss My Jazz, Dead Man Ray RIP) and the other cousins like Sukilove, Millionaire, Creature With The Atom Brain, Ow, Tip Toe Topic, I Love Sarah etc etc....
3 gigs in UK?
manchester and london, so where's the third UK gig?
I'm glad I saw
them when Stef was playing bass/singing and Rudi was playing guitar. They're still really good, and all, but I loved the Tom Waits and Scratchy jazz dimension the band had in those days. Funny (and good) that none of it is dated... the great advantages in keeping it simple and real and not overproducing records.
One thing that guts me is that you can't seem to find anything representative of Evil Superstars on YouTube...they were a better live band (though Millionaire kick my ass!)
Definitely
should have picked Instant Street for the video. Love the dancing down the street. Sister Dew is great too. In fact, The Ideal Crash is easily one of my favourite albums.
I was quite pleased/surprised with their latest album, as I found Pocket Revolution a bit hit and miss.
incorrect...
...the finest belgian band of all time is soulwax
^
wrong
its
subjective you pricks. They're totally fucking different anyway
no shit
.
ha ha knew you two'd be on this like...
I'm so pissed off it's on a school night. There's no way I can get down from Newcastle and back for work. I did it in the past but I can't drive now so that's me fucked!
What's wrong with scotland? Lets have a date there on the weekend...
what you on about?
have you not heard e's talking!?!? it wins at music
and
don't forget an other great Belgian band: Ghinzu
Ghinzu
cool band also
^Evil Superstars were frickin awesome,
particularly the mental second album.
