Albert Hammond Jr - one-fifth of New Yorkers The Strokes and solo artist in his own right - has told Planet Sound that a new Strokes album must come out next year.
Speaking to the Teletext 'zine, the guitarist commented:
"If we don't make a Strokes record before [the end of 2009], people will think that's the end of us. Nothing's set, but we're definitely figuring out something to do for 2009."
The band's last album, First Impressions Of Earth (review), came out in 2006. Hammond Jr's second solo album, ¿Cómo Te Llama?, was released on Monday (July 7) and is reviewed here.

Don't care about them any more.
Their ultra-error was trying to please leftfield critics who hated their sound with that dogshit third album.
It was such a sadly desperate attempt to prove they were capable of something else, something 'different'.
Personally I think that experimentalism in music is brilliant, but only if you're extremely prolific. The Strokes are one of the laziest bands around. And if you're so laid-back and slow with your releases, every one needs to be spot on, and it gives you a lot less leverage to 'fuck with the formula'.
^ these two comments
are dogshit
the first half was alright though
and it did sort of work. the 2nd half tailed off spectacularly though.
The first five songs were 9/10 or 10/10 quality
It did get worse as it went on though, but I still think it is a great album based on the first half of it.
Ize of the World was good
but i think that was the only high-point of the second half.
Room On Fire is their best album. No-one ever agrees but I hope that one day they will understand (like when people decided Costner's Waterworld was ok)
anyway, they deserve one more chance
They're the most important band of the decade
by about six thousand years.
Vampire Weekend won't influence even a hundredth of the people Is This It did.
is it a bit crazy for me to say that
i thought that first impressions of earth was a pretty good album.
^ DING DING DING
Correct.
third album was the best
yep yep yep.
^ ehhh.
not necessarily their best album. i'd have to say room on fire (gasp!) was their best album.
spot on
thank you
Yes
And Is This It didn't influence a as many people as Robert Mugabe has. Influence can be misguided.
The Strokes were gash then
And remain gash now
^Wraps this up nicely.^
Awaits the new stuff with hope.
