Phosphorescent to debut as full band at DiS-sponsored London date

Phosphorescent will perform as a full live band for the first time in the UK next month, at a DrownedinSound-sponsored show in London.

Main man Matthew Houck has thus far only shown Britain what he can do on his own – and by all accounts it was rather good, so imagine that, to the power of four. Alternatively, just imagine the type of music you’d need to tame this beautiful white horse.

Anyway – Houck will be joined by pianist Scott Stapleton, bassist Jeff Bailey and drummer Ben McConnell at the London Scala on the 14th of July for the show, which is in support to Pinback.

Tickets cost £12 and are available from WeGotTickets. Doors will be thrown open at 7.30pm, so get there early so as not to miss what’s described here, and streaming below:

Found him boring

when I saw him play in Paris...

Worst act

at EITS ATP

i think that was just the unfortunate timing of his set

rather than him being rubbish - he was on really late sandwiched between more lively stuff. would have been much better suited to the afternoon.

Great when he played the borderline

I thought.

what on earth are you talking about?

his set at ATP was excellent. It wasn't his fault that the crowd in Reds was full of thoughtless arseholes who felt the overwhelming need to discuss what they had for dinner rather than listen to his wonderfully thought provoking music.

An amazingly talented musician who is criminally underrated.

You Are Kidding Me!!!!!!!!

Phosphorescent was the most mesmerising performance at the EITS ATP! I'd never heard anything by him before, but I had been recommended him, and I'm so glad I saw him. He was amazing!

Well, it just goes to show, everyone has different tastes. I bet you didn't like Stars Of The Lid either...

I agree that the crowd were "thoughtless arseholes" and that could have had an effect

I just found him to be very self indulgent and not my thing live, better on record IMHO

Also that night I had a pasta bake for dinner, it was very nice.

I enjoyed Stars of the Lid

but found myself looking forward to Battles during the set, does that make me a bad person?

ATP

I also found him utterly mesmerising at Explosions ATP. Venue definately didn't suit him though. One of my favourite gigs of the weekend, although I naively expected him to bring out the band at any moment.

2 very good reasons

to go to this show then. i wonder if a full band would somewhat restrict the loose interpretations of his songs than solo though ? like the guitar wig-outs & feedback / loops which i liked.

yes

quite frankly.

Oh.

Well.

Just chords

I did hear one person next to me grumbling during SOTL's set, and said "...it's just chords"..." but oh, what lovely chores they were (is what I thought but didn't say), and I think everybody was probably looking forward to Battles, so I don't think that's a bad thing, really!

Oy DiS!!

Can you no arrange a tour with a band and this guy? I love his work and would kill to see Phosphorescent work with a band, but can't make it down to London.
