What's the Spanish for 'youthquake'? Gerard Way speaks out for emo community

My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way was in Mexico at the weekend and he should be applauded, we guess, for being the first of emo’s holy trinity – wither thou, brothers Wentz and Urie? – to speak out on the appalling (lol) anti-emo violence that has positively swept Latin America in the last month or so.

But DrownedinSound has its suspicions that Way was merely pre-empting flying kicks to the ball region when he called for calm from the stage last Saturday (12 Apr) at Zero Fest.

I want to say something today before we continue,” Way began.

Recently we've been hearing a lot of stuff about some violence here in your country having to do with kids who want to wear black T-shirts... or some kind of bullshit stuff like that.

We don't want to see any fucking violence,” he fucking continued. “We came here for one reason, and that's to be at the fucking rock show.

Cue applause and cheers, we imagine. Arriba!

DiScuss**: will you be next on the bootboys’ list? Are YOU wearing a black T-shirt? Alex Denney is. I imagine he'll be kicked all to sod unless he sorts out that fringe.

well

I'm not wearing a black t-shirt but i am wearing a black hoodie... is that worse?

I'm a stripey t shirt!

If you aren't living on the edge, you're taking up too much space

Hmmm

I meant I'm wearing a stripey t shirt. Although being one is surely a more serious crime.

WHAT ITEM OF CLOTHING WOULD YOU BE?

wanksock

Preaching to the converted

Who exactly would have been listening to his comments? He was "speaking from the stage" at a festival, right? So basically, he's telling a load of My Chemical Romance fans and Mexican emo kids to stop getting beaten up? Glad to see he's putting his fame to good use.

fucking hell.

he literally did nothing wrong here.
stop being a twat simply because you don't like him.

GOOD MAN

Probably, he says things that make sense.

.

Nothing wrong sure, nothing smart either...

what was dumb about speaking out against violence?

fuck who his audience was, what's shameful/wrong/embarrassing/pointless about speaking out against senseless violence?

Well,

considering the line up featured Smashing Pumpkins, The mars Volta, Bright Eyes, Morning jacket, the faint and timo mass and there was only one music stage im guessing it wasn't ALL emo kids. Eh?

i have to agree

he acknowledged what was happening to his fans in that particular country so i cant fault him.

He still pisses me off.

duh

duh no why he spaek up no duh emo lol

(Don't like his band, good on him for speaking up.)

this is a nam who once yelled

"Show me your fucking fists"

what a prick.

*man

Who wrote this article?

Jim Davidson?

But by saying it on stage...

He created a news story that actually reached an anti-emo website like this... So he did something right, no? Well then.

.

Nothing at all. It seems like he's trivialised the whole thing though. He sounds like a fucking moron ready to fight fire with fire. It's just the wrong arena to address the issue in, do it in a magazine where you can give it some depth. Anything less than adressing the issue would be unbelievable in context but he just sounds aggressive himself and shits all over his doorstep.

.

Yeah! Maybe! Ha-ha! I used to take the rough with the smooth on such an anti-emo authority as DIS but reporting this story is one step too far. Please stop making Gerard Way out to be reactionist and simple, even in direct quotations. Don't you know that you're just fuelling the fire?!

I read

Fucking and Fists the wrong way round. Wasn't sure what was going on for a minute there.

'he fucking continued'

:-D

anti-emo?

shit

i'm going to buy the second album now

really.

anti-popular

.

You've fallen into my sar-chasm! I was just mocking the guy above.

that kev

comes across as a bit of a prick. it's a shame really.
