Watch: new Black Kids video

The press release reckons this is already “a classic”. Wherever the debut single release from Florida’s Black Kids ends up in rock’s dusty pantheon, two things are for certain: one, this hype is ridiculous; two, ‘I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend’ is a very decent crack at a song.

Riding in on what should be a long familiar Cure-reffing riff, ‘I’m Not Gonna Teach…’ continues through a flurry of synths and bleeding heart yelps, protagonist Reggie Youngblood turning down a dance in a capricious huff.

The song’s message? What’s the point in dancing if it doesn’t lead to sex. Dubious? Yes, I hear the DrownedinSound readership say; what’s the point in dancing at all if we can take the sex anyway.
