Green Day's Billie Joe upset at MTV's abuse of "manufactured child"

Billie Joe Armstrong - tattooed singing man with strangely enduring pop-punkers Green Day - has ticked off MTV bosses for allowing Britney Spears to deliver THAT performance at the Video Music Awards back in September.

Says the 'Basket Case' dude, pictured:

"People want blood. They want to see other people thrown to the lions. How could the people at MTV, the people around her, not know this girl was fucked up? People came in expecting a train wreck, and they got more than they bargained for."

Spears - whose new album Blackout was released this week and is reviewed here - performed her latest single 'Gimme More' at the televised ceremony, but the semi-live rendition was "like witnessing a public execution" according to Armstrong.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, he continued:

"She is a manufactured child. She has come up through this Disney perspective, thinking that all life is about is to be the most ridiculous star you could be. But it's also about what we look at as entertainment - watching somebody go through that."

The other night, right, Britney wore a ridiculous catsuit. I saw it in London Lite. LOL! She has children.

that sign off paragraph is fantastic

"The other night, right, Britney wore a ridiculous catsuit. I saw it in London Lite. LOL! She has children."

I fucking hate the London Lite.

That's what all the hoopla was about?

She was just a bit stoned doing a walk-thru performance... if I had a nickel for every band I've seen do that...

This is all very ha-ha hee-hee

But did it occur to you that Billie Joe might, like, be right?

i think the mention of Basket Case

perhaps shows that a man who made a video mocking the mentally ill probably shouldn't get much say in the matter.

I completely ..

agree with the bloke. She's blatently had a breakdown and needs not to be exploited. She's only like 25 or something for fucks sake. I think its really sad - regardless of the fact that she's a celebrity she's a young single mother having a fucking shit time and not handling things.

it is really sad. we're like vultures circling

but i can't help but watch this extraordinary spectacle, enjoy it too. very last days of rome...

Famous

I know to an extent BJM has come into success by a wildly different route than said former child star, but when it comes to exploiting his own image in order to be successful, he can't really claim to be wholly innocent. Every single schmoe in a band wants to be on the front cover of the paper. What is clearly offensive is the industry pressuring female r&b stars to walk and talk like strippers, but is that pressure really there?...Or is it a case of girls complicitly getting down to the basest form of attracting attention. Let's face it, mainstream r&b is so fuckin generic, that maybe they (stars and their surrounding suits) think it's the ONLY way to attract attention to songs that are mostly highly polished turds.

she

put herself in for it

THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT

hmm,

was THAT performance THAT bad anyways? Britney has always been this shit and THAT performance was no different.
